THE MINISTER of Aviation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has announced that plans are underway for Ghana to get a new national airline.
According to her, several proposals had been received in line with the new national carrier and a technical team is critically analyzing them, presently.
“Very soon we shall get a national carrier as a country that will give us pride as a people”, the Aviation minister announced with confidence.
She was speaking to the press in Kumasi during President Akufo-Addo’s tour of the Ashanti Region, which started on Saturday.
K’si Airport
The minister unleashed a salvo, stating that the Kumasi Airport has not yet reached international status.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration continually bragged of elevating the Kumasi Airport to international standards.
This was after the ex-President Mahama’s government had completed the first phase of works on the airport.
Minister
Madam Abena Dapaah said the previous government only did some works on the runway and fixed some lights at the facility and that cannot make Kumasi airport an international airport.
The minister wondered why an airport which cannot accommodate big aircrafts can be classified as international airport.
She said the NPP administration had effective policy to make the Kumasi Airport an international airport, very soon.
She said the second phase of the Kumasi Airport project would be carried out but it would be based on value for money.
Madam Dapaah revealed that she would be touring the country to inspect colonial airstrips that had been abandoned for years.
She indicated that her ministry had plans of developing those airstrips into smaller airports to help boost domestic air transport.

If he didn't close that deal he would not had commissioned the first phase of the project ok. Don't speak on issues u don't have facts to back. infact if u have nothing to say just ***barred word*** thats all.
Elections are over and this shouldn't be coming out of the lips of a minister of state. Where in this world do u go for negotiations for an air carrier in just two months or so? NPP stop trowing dust in the eyes of Ghanaian. The past government never said the Kumasi airport is an international one they said after all the works there is done the status will be an international status so if they finished with the first face and u r coming to over see the implementation of the second face just do so and stop meddling in cheap politicking it would not help any of us as a nation and a people. Am highly disappointed in the minister.
U sound as if Mahama has informed you he completed that deal. please dont say what you dont know. thank you
Good news! Without getting into politics I hope these plans are achieved. That would be very good for Ghana. We need to progress and stop the bipartisan politics. Whoever negotiated and/or implemented it shouldn't be too much of an issue. On giving credit where it is due I do agree :).
Oh NPP , taking credit where u have not sown. Where in the world are you the negotiate and get a national carrier in 2 months? Give praise where it is due. The previous govt had completed all these deals. Ungrateful people.
