The Financial and Tax division of the High Court has ordered the confiscation of the East Legon residence of convicted drug trafficker Nayele Ametepe.
Delivering her ruling, the judge justice Georgina Mensah Datsa said from the evidence provided she had no choice but to conclude that the East Legon Property belonged to the arrested drug queen.
However, the second property located in Kumasi cannot be confiscated by the State because the state could not prove that the jailed Nayele owned that property.
If you may recall, the properties which are houses located in East Legon and Kumasi came up for litigation when the mother of Nayele contended she owned them.
According to Peace FM court correspondent, Agya Kwabena, the property estimated at 1.6 million dollars would be sold and the revenue derived would be distributed as follows; 50% Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), 20% to Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO),15% to the Consolidated fund and 15% to the Judicial Service of Ghana. The sharing is in accordance with section 66 of Act 804, the Economic and Organized Crime Office Act, 2010.

Background
Following the arrest and conviction of Nayele, NACOB and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) filed an application on December 3, 2015 praying the court to grant an order for them to confiscate her properties.
The properties included two houses, one at East Legon in Accra and one at Pease in the Ashanti region, an electrical shop known as Night Angels Enterprise, located at Dzorwulu, and six Fidelity Bank accounts with total cash of approximately GH¢23,000.
Subsequently, the court granted the request of NACOB and EOCO and ordered the confiscation of the electrical shop and the six bank accounts.

I'm not a lawyer but sometimes when I hear and see how some judges rules on issues it's baffles me,someone has been jailed for smuggling cocaine.i think hailing alone is a punishment, why confiscating her property? Did she stole from government coffers to do those properties? Don't the woman have children to take off. When someone offend punish the individual not his entire family. Am against illegal business but confiscating someone's properties for a an illegal business too is wrong.
