Former Deputy Attorney General in the erstwhile Mahama Administration, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has sued the Controller and Accountant General and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over claims that he and some other MPs who served as ministers in the previous government, took double salary as being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
In an application filed at the High Court, the Bolgatanga East MP argued that his arrest by the police CID in connection with the matter, is a clear violation of his human rights.
According to Dr. Ayine, the police CID exceeded its investigative powers when it failed to provide any evidence of alleged double payment and also failed to show probable or reasonable cause of action that he was paid the said amount during questioning upon his arrest.
Dr. Ayine is, therefore, praying the court to restrain the police to “cease and desist from taking any further action in this matter until the final determination of this case.”
Twenty-five of the MPs were initially asked to report to the police, but 18 of them were later asked to disregard that invitation.
The police, during its investigation, interrogated a number of the accused MPs.
Per the dictates of public service, an official who occupies both positions is entitled to a single salary, equal to the level of a Minister of State.

what were you thinking when you received those monies? was it normal that persons in your constituency are suffering and you are taken funds from government. you should be prosecuted now.
Desperate move by these NDC double salary thifs.......... The law will soon catch up with them. Instead of them to show remorse and resign from parliament they are now trying to use legalities.... When you realise you were being paid double salary what did you do? Nothing! How can we call these robbers Honorable men? The same law will soon remove them from parliament and they will end up in prison.
The simple question is that, did you take double salary, one from the Accountant General and the other from parliament, or not? Tivs, all Mahama's men. You never thought you were infringing on the fundamental human rights of poor Ghanaians by taking double salary? Anybody who takes double salary will know, because your appointment letter should tell you your salary, any day.
