The president of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe will join forces with some lawyers to drag Midland Savings and Loans to court for allowing a police officer brutalize a nursing mother at one of their branches in Accra.
Franklin Cudjoe said he is taking action because the police officer in question could not have acted in that manner without instruction from officials of Midland.
“Now that the bank has said they are investigating the matter, it shouldn’t actually end there. I’m likely to talk to a few lawyers to sue the bank so that the bank will pay substantial damages so that the lady is properly compensated…I don’t think the best thing to do is to ask the police or any security guard to walk the woman out. The policeman was acting on instruction,” he added.
Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor was captured in a video that has gone viral brutally assaulting Patience Osafo who was at the bank to withdraw some amount of money at the bank after closing hours.
In the video, the police officer, who was armed with an assault rifle, is seen striking the woman, who was holding her baby, multiple times on the head, first with an umbrella, and then with his fists.
The officer also attempted to drag her out of the building violently.
The woman was holding on to the baby while the officer kicked and shoved her around.
Speaking on Citi FM/Citi TV’s new analysis programme, The Big Issue on Saturday, Franklin Cudjoe said he would soon talk to some lawyers to take up the issue.
He explained that the move is aimed at getting a better compensation package for Patience Osarfo.
“This is beyond asking for charity for her because this happened right under their nose and properly sue them out of existence…. Whatever the issue was, the fact of the matter is that did she have legitimate money with the bank? She had it, and to the extent that she could take her money, you cannot deny her,” he added.

In respect of the $89/178 million KelniGVG Scandal. If you think that is too Hot for you to handle, then keep quiet till the Day of Judgement. All of you guys are part of Ghana woes. Too many intellectuals, yet they do not intellect anything. All Ghanaian Intellectual knows best is Propaganda, Blackmailing, Boot-Licking, etc, etc. Court of Public opinion has already sentence the naive Party Activist Foot-Soldier Police Officer. So do go riding on his bare back. Rather stick to your Communication Minister issue. I arrest my case.

They are not police officers just party sympathisers that has been drafted in to this Police service with no adequate training, they have no intension to protect Ghanaians. It clearly shows a lot of them do not know what they are doing. WE ARE A BIG JOKE
Strange story. The woman was at the bank to withdraw money after closing hours. Wow! how could she enter the bank after closing hours? Was she refused to be served because she came late? I can't think far.
HAVE BECOME OVERLY NUISANCE THESE DAYS-:FRANKLIN!
Frank , i thought the police has been duly trained by relevant police training school to protect the citizenry at all times. The bank didn't employ or trained the police so why would they suffer the actions of an officer who didn't take his training seriously and brutalised a citizen and did it alone? Do you think the bank will tell him to beat the woman? At worse they will only say drive her away from here. The rest is up to the police to apply his training and not to beat the woman. This is the law: if the bank didn't employ the police and that he acted overly above his training, the bank can't be liable vicariously, unless we use emotions, as often the case in Ghana. The duty of care of the staff ends somewhere and the police takes it over on security level. The bank is a bank and not security watchdog. The bank liability will be how they refused to pay the woman for days and that is a matter for the bank of Ghana and security exchange. The beating of the woman has nothing to do with the bank. The policeman was ***barred word*** and ***barred word***.
I give you my full support because they are the cause of this problem sue them and let them pay heavy compensating to the woman and also ensure the Midland saving and loan company is suspended from operation not less than one year
I agree with you because He follows instruction but common sense and his academy knowledge of the use of FORCE could have been used.Else the police academy needs a review of their policy and procedure for training these cadets.
Go franklin, help put ghana on the right track
