Joseph Yieleh Chireh, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West, has indicated that Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is being sabotaged internally to thwart his presidential ambition.
The MP’s comment follows reports of the Vice-President donating expired food items to people affected by the spillage of water from Bagre Dam in Wa, the Upper West Regional Capital.
It has emerged that there was no deliberate plan to add the expired food to the items donated by Dr. Bawumia to the flood victims.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) said the expired food items were “mistakenly” added to the items distributed to the flood victims and took “full responsibility for the said mistakes.”
Mr Chireh, however, rejected the rationalization by NADMO, saying that the expired food items were deliberately planted in the relief items to hamper Dr Bawumia’s chances of succeeding President Akufo-Addo after his tenure.
He told journalists on Wednesday that “if the thing [donation] had gone well the political outcome would have been good for the vice-president…I believe people want to sabotage the vice-president in case there’s a room for him to become president.”
According to him, “This particular issue is so unfortunate. But it appears they want to put him in a very bad light in the media so that Ghanaians will always associate the negatives with the vice-president.”
But NADMO said that it was taking steps to address the anomaly, adding that it would recall the expired oil.
NADMO debunked reports that the products were procured by the vice-president, saying the expired oil were to be disposed of.
Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region raised concerns after noticing the expired dates on the oil.
“All items distributed to the three Northern Regions were not purchased by the Vice President’s Office, but were all supplied by NADMO.
“NADMO takes full responsibility for the said mistakes and assures the general public that no such unfortunate incident will recur.

It seems that Ghana has become sompolitical that, when any of us make any mistakes or commit crime,it is the opposition that is to be blamed why. Are we saying a political party should take responsibility for the harm caused when my vice president can read? I saw the news item when it read " vice president donates to flood victims in the upper west region" and in fact pproceeded to the northern region. If NADMO had food in the warehouse already why wait for the vice to come and claim undue praises as though he doing victims a favour.. Now someone has to be sacrificed just to cover up. It is time Ghanaians know that, our leaders are elected to serve and not to be served as though we are servants and they our lords. Ghana wake up!
AZZEY,do you people have any message for the country apart from search and destroy? look, ndc archaic soviet inferior tactics is no more operating even in Russia so get yourselves enlightened up and move with the world for your understanding and actions ore out of this world. In any case, what happened to your petition to the IMF your most best friends on earth where you take so much delight in taking our country to anytime you get power, due to your corrupt and evil ways that plunge our country into HIPC so you go for credibility? I think that's the most important and necessary thing to do than talking about ndc orchestrated f000**lishness which has exposed their evil intentions about Ghanaians! what do you gain from doing this? the hate you people have for the good people of Ghana is being reciprocating to ndc the same way and so nothing will chamber the minds of authentic and real Ghanains to choose ndc over the NPP government of compassion and listening! Ghanaians can't take anymore of ndc insults, arrogance, impunity, display of power and neglect. Get a life and move your on, for the Vice President is on course and we LOVE HIM !
Why is NADMO taking responsibility? The headline was everywhere " VICE PRESIDENT DONATES FOOD TO FLOOD VICTIMS". Why didn't you tell us then he didn't buy the items? He was grinning and basking in the glory and now that it has turned sour you are telling us he did not buy the items. Foooools
