Change haters at one of the luxurious hotels in the country, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel- under the Golden Beach Hotels Ltd- have set to work, blocking every initiative by the Chief Executive, Abena Pokuaa Amoah Boatey, to clear the accumulated mess and put the hotel on the globe as one of the world class tourist destinations in the country.
Yesterday, as part of the ploy, some workers at the hotel demonstrated against Abena Pokuaa Amoah Boatey, accusing her, chiefly, of purportedly subjecting them to unfair labour practices.
Holding placards with inscriptions such as: “Respect workers’ rights Madam CEO/MD/GM”, “A highly competent and professional person must run hotels and not you Madam MD”, among others, the workers blocked the entrance to the hotel, chanting all manner of invectives against their CEO.
Interestingly, members of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) were also massed up at the hotel to, as this paper gathered, ‘solidarise’ with the picketing staff, with the police in toe to provide protection for the demonstrators.
Later, one management member expressed surprise at the protestors, saying that the CEO inherited a struggling organisation, to the extent that staff had not been paid for 5 months but that since she took over, staff have been paid up to date.
“She has improved occupancy from 0 to fully booked till January 2019. You cannot fault a CEO for - Dismissing staff who steal items from guests - Making sure she knows what's happening from kitchen to room maintenance - Being strict with work ethics - Changing procurements methods (to eliminate waste) MD, keep up the good work,” a section of the workers who were not in support of the protest told this paper when we got to the scene of the demonstration.
Independently, however, this paper discovered that it is some opposition political party cartel that, bent on getting the hardworking CEO fired, are trying to put sand in her gari and are hiding behind some union members.

Those behind the disturbances should be penalized via suspension. If they can't work anymore at La Palm Beach, they must leave.
Ghanaians hate reforms that will bring benefit to the country. I was surprised yesterday when CEO of Industrial Union Association, Solomon Kottey talking like Serial Caller of political party. Meanwhile, other workers have distant themselves from the group you have supported. Let us be fair to people who put their life on the job to make changes that will bring our economy back and stop calling names
