The Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development says it is baffled by the 'baseless comments' of the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State and President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV which suggested that "shoddy work" was done by the Commission of Inquiry which explored the creation of new regions.
According to a statement signed by the Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr Dan Botwe, the Commission adhered strictly to the provisions outlined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana relating to the creation of regions stressing that the comments of Togbe Afede be disregarded.
Listing nine consultative sessions which the Commission held between May 2017 and January 2018 and had Togbe Afede in attendance, the Ministry said it was baffled by the traditional ruler's comments because he was consulted "perhaps more than any other Ghanaian on the creation of regions".
"...We wish to debunk the statement that the Commission of Inquiry did a shoddy job," the statement said.
"The Ministry has in the past desisted from responding to views expressed by our revered and eminent Chiefs, but has found it imperative in this instance to respond to attacks on the Commission of Inquiry into the Creation of Regions by no less a person than Togbe Afede XIV.
"The utterances of the President of the National House of Chiefs really baffle us as he has been consulted perhaps more than any other Ghanaian on the creation of regions. Togbe Afede XIV has been involved in all consultations of the Commission with the Council of State, the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the National House of Chiefs".
The Ministry reiterated that the Commission adhered strictly the provisions outlined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana relating to the creation of regions and government has expressed satisfaction with their work and the report submitted.
In their opinion, the eminent men and women who served on the Commission did a great job, holding 47 public hearings and 41 consultative meetings and deserve commendation, not insults.
Members of the Commission of Inquiry chaired by Justice S.A. Brobbey were; Dr Grace Bediako (former government statistician), Maulvi Mohammed Bin-Salih (AMEER and Missionary in Charge, Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana), Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa (former Vice-Chancellor, KNUST), Ms Gladys Gillian Naadu Tetteh (Local governance expert) and Mr Robert Ajene (Retired Director of Educations).
The rest are, Dr David Wellingston Essaw (Senior Research Fellow, University of Cape Coast), Professor George Owusu (Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research) and Ms Josephine Hughes (a legal practitioner).

Please ask Togbe Afede if he has ever paid a courtesy call or an Official visit on the people from those areas. What interest does he have for those people. Does he see them as part of his beloved ones? if yes why hasn't he fight for them when they were in distress. selfish man. We will not work for the resources to be used to develop your arears alone. We will also see same development. Nana don't listen to them, nothing will happen. People from those part of the region are ready for them. If they have ever help us they should come.
PLZ IS THE CREATION OF THE REGION A PRIORITY,WE NEED JOBS NOT MORE REGION MR PRESIDENT AND CO
Indeed his comments are very very shocking. He is both a traditional ruler and a learned individual. If he watched the recent Brexit vote, he would have seen that not every EU member voted to decide the fate of the UK. That is international best practice - to allow those who will be directly affected by the exit, to decide. But in this country, every institution and almost the entire populace think on partisan lines. If the NDC had also not "promised" new regions (in an apparent attempt to counter the NPP), the situation would have been worse. Now they have resorted to working behind the scenes through chiefs!
To me Togbe Afede will have to step down as the President of the National House of Chiefs, if he of all people could say this then there is no point being in that position. What at all does he want to know or get in terms of information that he wouldn't have should he request for!
THE SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL BACKGROUNDS OF THE PEOPLE OF THE FORMER TRANS-VOLTA TOGOLAND (TVT) OUGHT TO BE DISCUSSED AND DEBATED VERY WELL BEFORE THE DIVIDING THE PEOPLE AGAIN. THE SUBJECT MATTER OF THE UNIONIZATION OF THE GOLD-COAST AND TRANS-VOLTA TOGOLAND OR WESTERN TOGOLAND TO CREATE GHANA IS A TIME BOMB WAITING TO EXPLODE. UP TO NOW, THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE REGION WHOSE NATIONAL IDENTITIES ARE VERY CONFUSING, TO SAY THE LEAST. FIRST, RECENT HISTORY TELLS US THAT THE GERMANS RULED AND ABANDONED THE PEOPLE OF THE REGION. SECOND, THE BRITISH RULED AND ABANDONED THEM. THE UNITED NATIONS ADMINISTERED THE REGION FOR A WHILE AND ABANDONED IT FOR THE SAKE OF UNIONIZATION WITH GOLD-COAST TO FORM GHANA. THE UNIONIZATION NEVER HAPPENED. THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE REGION WHO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES NEITHER AS GOLD-COASTERS OR GHANAIANS. THEY ARE STILL THE PEOPLE OF WESTERN TOGOLAND. THEY ARE SEEKING THEIR INDEPENDENCE. THEY WILL GAIN INDEPENDENCE IN A MATTER OF TIME. NOT EVEN ONE SOUL WILL PERISH. ALL WILL BE SAVED. HALT THE DIVISION. WE ARE UNITED.
HAABA THIS TOGBE AF33F3DE3 KORAA AD3N? BEHAVING LIKE A KINDERGATEN KID? GO FIGURE!
By the time we are done with the creation of new regions, the NDC world bank will become a rural bank. Oti will vote for npp for appreciation. Ashanti and Eastern region would be intact. Politics is a game of sense. You must be smart and always ahead of your opponents.
TOGBE "THE CHAMELEON" AFEDE'S COMMENTS AND 360 DEGREES TURN IS NOTHING NEW AND MUST BE IGNORED. THIS UNGRATEFUL TOGBE AFTER BEING HELPED BY FORMER PRES KUFFUOR TO AMASS INCREDIBLE WEALTH WHILE HIS EWE MASSES ARE DROWNING IN POVERTY TO DISOWN HIM. TOGBE IN A BOLD STATEMENT AND WITH A SQUARE FACE AFTER HIS FAVORITE NDC STOLE THE 2008 ELECTIONS THAT "HE (TOGBE)FOR THE FIRST TIME FEELS HE AND HIS EWES ARE IN PART GHANAIANS", MEANING THEY EWES WERE OUTCASTS UNDER KUFFUOR. TOGBE AFEDE AND HIS GANG OF EWE RENEGADES ARE UP TO MISCHIEF AND MUST BE MONITORED CAREFULLY AS TO THEIR NEXT COURSE OF ACTION. BY THE WAY, WHO ARE THOSE ***barred word*** WHO THINK THE WHOLE OF THE VOLTA REGION SHOULD VOTE IN THE REFERENDUM? THE AFFECTED AND AFFLICTED PEOPLE IN THE VOLTA MAINLY THE NORTHERN VOLTA ARE OUTNUMBERED BY THE INWARD-LOOKING AND REGIONAL OVERLORDS THE SOUTH VOLTARIANS. SO, CAN ANY SENSIBLE INWARD-LOOKING EWE TELL THOSE WHOSE FATE ARE BEING DETERMINED THAT THEY WILL VOTE TO FREE THEM OR CREATE THE NEW OTI REGION? I REST MY CASE!
when you look at the structure of the commission you could see the caliber of eminent personalitis, why is togbe afede disterb and worried. you call this great work of the commission a shody work? you could not have done a better work them if you were the chairman of the board. it is time we put politics aside and seek the welfare of our country ghana.you were consulted than any of the chiefs and because of your parochial interest you are calling their good work bad.please let us all help to move ghana forward. long live ghana long live nana addo.
With his position as the President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe must know that he is not only the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State. As such, he should tone down in the way he carries himself since he is a national figure now. Last time it was him and Mr. Freddie Blay, today it is him and a whole commission. Please let's consult one another and foster cooperation as a nation but not to point accusing fingers always.
