Presenters from the stables of the Despite Media Group, over the weekend, scooped 10 prestigious awards at the Pan Africa Executive Awards held at the Accra International Conference Center.
Organized by the Confederation of Governance Assessment Institute (COGAI) and the Bureau of Research on Governance Commerce and Administration (BORGCA), the PAN African Executive Awards Summit 2018, recognizes and honours Africans who have made a great impact in media and the business world.
"Tikesie"
First to be honoured was Kwame Nkrumah "Tikese", one of Ghana’s media Generals, with the "Most Innovative Morning Show Host" in Ghana award.
Kwame Nkrumah was commended for his unique style in presentation and historical knowledge on issues.
He has over the past decade of media practice, earned the accolade, the voice of innovative and excellent delivery in the media.
Speaking after receiving his award, Tikese noted that he is a "strong believer" of Pan Africanism and will continue to propagate Pan African values, whiles calling for "unity on the African continent".
“I share the honor of this prestigious award with all who helped in diverse ways to make this a reality,” he added.
He also expressed profound gratitude to his employers, the Chief Executive Officer of the Despite Group, Dr. Osei Kwame 'Despite' and Managing Director, Dr. Fadda Dickson.
"Royal Baby"
Couple of minutes into the function, versatile radio presenter and host of Peace FM's Mid-morning show, Kofi Kum-Bilson, was also honored with a Life Time Achievement Award.
Affectionately called "The Royal Baby", Mr Bilson was born on 2nd January 1970 at Kaneshie First Light in Accra to Mr. A.B Bilson then the Manager of UTC and Mrs. Juliana Bislon an educationist.
He had his primary education at Datus Complex, Bubiashie in Greater Accra. Joined Accra Academy in 1981 where he had his secondary education from Form 1 to Upper Six.
After his National Service, and just to please his mother who wanted him to be a Chartered Accountant, he pursued a course in Chartered Accountant. But it was obvious his main interest was in music and after the passing away of his mother, Kofi Kum Bilson took up his personal passion; that is music and radio.
In 1991, he became Ghana’s no. 1 and Africa's no. 1 DJ and later undertook a two year training course at GBC where he hosted the "Band-stand" and "Sunday Morning Gospel" programmes.
Just when he was passing out to become a full staff of GBC, Joy FM, a private radio station started operations, so he applied and was subsequently employed.
He was a staff of the Multimedia Group for 11 years; 5 years in Accra (JoyFM) and 6 years in Kumasi (LuvFM).
He was later transferred to Accra (Adom FM), but quit to join the Despite Media Company - where he has been till date - for the past 17 years.
Kofi Kum Bilson is a born again Christian who fellowships at KICC Ghana and he is married to Mrs. Abigail Bilson. They are blessed with two children, Maame Segua Bilson and Nana Aba Bilson.
He has a strong passion for big large dogs and reading, especially biblical literature.
"DKY"
Next up on the podium to receive his award was Peace FM's Head of Sports Dan Kwaku Yeboah.
The illustrious broadcaster, who is head of sports for Despite Media Group which includes UTV, Peace FM, Okay FM and others, was adjudged the Most Innovative Sports Presenter of the year.
This latest award haul becomes his 5th in recent weeks as country and the continent by far continue to be awaken his tremendous contributions and life-touching initiatives within the sporting arena, using journalism as a valve to channel his vision to steer fairness and justice in Ghanaian sports.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) named him as the best Sports Broadcast Journalist of the Year following his magnificent achievement echoed in his zeal to be the nation’s leading voice in the fight for transparency and accountability in sports.
Some of his initiatives includes playing a crucial role in the setting up and launching of the Coach E K Afranie Foundation which seeks to preserve the memory of the legendary former Ghana senior football team coach.
He has also introduced initiatives aimed at helping raise funds to support former national sports men who are now trapped into abject poverty due to lack of support from the government.
Kwaku Yeboah championed a fundraising campaign to help the mother of a Ghanaian footballer, who died while undergoing trials in Russia, to travel to the Eastern European country.
"Lady Lydia"
Another outstanding media personality who grabbed an award on the nite was co-host of UTV's "Adekye Nsroma" Morning Show, Yaa Konama.
The award ceremony was graced by a tall list of connoisseurs from different business backgrounds, Chief Executive Officers and captains of industries in the country.

Tikesie is one of the most corrupt journalist in Ghana. He is always doing the bidding of the NDC. He will call an NDC officials give them all the time and latitude to tell lies and when it's time for NPP, he will stop them in no time. Him with others like Omanhene Kwabena Asante used to queue at Julius Debra's house to collect their bidding mooney. Who is checking these corrupt Ghana Journalists?
