“We just want to use the media to talk to those who are perpetrating this; those who don’t want the good of Ghana to be very careful....because we are ready for them. We have the soldiers, of course I am a soldier and I know that we have rules of engagement, but we will not hesitate if arrest is not possible to shoot to kill because Ghana must succeed,” Head of Security for Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Major (rtd) Lawrence Appiah.
The GRIDCo Head of Security gave this stern warning to perpetrators of would-be acts of sabotage against power lines across the country, especially those in the Tema enclave.
He was reacting to reports of gas pipelines within the Tema enclave that were nearly torched by some unscrupulous people.
Over the weekend, some security men on regular patrol checks along the pipelines believed to transmit fuel to the generating plants within the Tema enclave, discovered that some ignoble persons had packed car tyres over some pipelines and had torched these tyres.
This disturbing development comes on the back of the destruction of some pylons near the head office of state power transmitter GRIDCo, a few weeks ago.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, Major (rtd) Lawrence Appiah disclosed that the pipelines belonged to Cirrus Oil Services, a bulk oil distributor and not GRIDCo.
He intimated that measures have been put in place to ensure that any further attempt on the company's properties or state facilities in the energy sector by perpetrators will be met with open fire by their security personnel on duty.
Major (rtd) Appiah further revealed that directives have been given to their security personnel to "shoot to kill" anyone with such diabolical intent who will "attempt to sabotage" the operations of the power distributors in the Tema enclave.
“We just want to use the media to talk to those who are perpetrating this; those who don’t want the good of Ghana to be very careful....because we are ready for them. We have the soldiers, of course I am a soldier and I know that we have rules of engagement, but we will not hesitate if arrest is not possible to shoot to kill because Ghana must succeed”, he angrily warned.
According to him, though he cannot be definite about the hidden motives of the person or group of persons involved, whoever sought to carry out that heinous act clearly had no intention of making away with parts
“I can’t tell their motive and the target of the people who attempted to burn the lines but what I do know is that whoever sought to do that had no intention to pick anything away; the intention was to bring Ghana down...those who sell scraps are able to remove some of the parts of the pylon and sell them; so those are to be expected and we will work against them. But for somebody to sit down to cut a whole pylon down so that power will go off, I don’t see their motive if it is not sabotage then I don’t know what they seek”, he said.
Whiles urging other state agencies and private companies in the private sector to intensify their surveillance methods, Major (rtd) Appiah reiterated the pointed that “every economic activity is being driven by this power we are all trying to work hard to make sure we succeed. The affected lines belong to Cirrus Oil Services and the luck we had was that there was no fuel in the lines but water”.
"I urge other security heads of other energy supplying companies to strengthen their surveillance as they can be the next target," he admonished.
Meanwhile, Head of Health, Security and Safety Environment at Cirrus Oil Services, Daniel Amehoe, believes had the attempted arson been successful, it could have affected power supply to the entire country; "but fortunately, the under constructed tunnel contained water and not petrol or gas".

No one must take the law into their own hands and shoot to kill fellow Ghanaians. WE have laws that protect our Nation. Please do not send us back to AFRC and PNDC days when there were shootings to kill without due processes being followed.
If you have good message, you wouldn’t deploy this ***barred word*** tactics to win you power, Major repeat it to your men not spare anyone found to be doing that
YES THEY MUST BE ALLOWED TO SHOOT AND KILL ANYONE FOUND SABOTAGING OUR DEAR COUNTRY INCLUDING ALL ARMED ROBBERS!!!
THE SECURITY OPERATIVES MUST BE GIVEN ORDERS TO SHOOT BY SIGHT ANY SABOTEUR FOUND IN UNDERTAKING ANY OF SUCH EVIL DEEDS. IF ARMED ROBBERS AND SABOTEURS CARRY ARMS WHY CANT SECURITY OPERATIVES PROTECTING STATE FACILITIES AND GOOD PEOPLE OF GHANA CANNOT CARRY ARMS. PHONE NUMBERS OF SECURITY AGENCIES MUST BE GIVEN OUT TO THE PUBLIC TO HINT THEM OF ANY SUSPICIOUS DEVELOPMENT OR MOVES THEY FIND IN THEIR COMMUNITY TO CAUSE HARM TO STATE PROPERTIES OR HUMAN PERSONS IN THE NAME OF SUCH POLITICAL NONSENSEEEEEE. DURING JJ TIME DIRECTIVES SUCH AS SHOOT BY SIGHT OF PEOPLE CONSIDERED TO BE ENEMIES OF THE STATE WAS COMMON. SOME INDIVIDUALS WERE NAMED TO BE SHOT BY SIGHT EVEN WHEN NOT COMMITTING ANY CRIME AT TIME OF ENGAGEMENT. IT IS MORE JUSTIFIED TO SHOOT BY SIGHT ANY FOUND TO COMMIT SUCH A HEINOUS CRIME TO SABOTAGE THE NATION. NO MATTER THE SABOTEURS CAUSE HARM TO CITIZENS OF STATE PROPERTIES GHANAIANS SHALL NEVER VOTE FOR THEM. MY ONLY PROBLEMS IS WITH A G FOR APPARENT DOING NOTHING OVER OFOSU AMPOFO ISSUE. GHANAIANS MIGHT NO LONGER BELIEVE IN ANY POLITICIANS IF AKKUFO ADDO REFUSE TO TAKE ACTION OVER ISSUES OF CORRUPTION INCLUDING DOUBLE SALARY SAGA. WHAT DID OKUDJATO ABLAKWA AND OTHERS NOT DO TO ACCUSE AND HARASSED SOME MINISTERS OF CORRUPTION WHEN THERE WASN'T ANY. IF A DOG WILL NOT BITE YOU IT WILL NOT SHOW THE TEETH TO YOU. THE INACTION TO PUNISH CORRUPTION IS CAUSING ANGER IN MANY GHANAIANS AND IMPATIENT TO AKUFFO ADDO NPP GOVERNMENT. 2020 IN JUST AT THE CONNER. KEEP TREATING NDC CORRUPTION UNDER MAHAMA WITH KIDS GLOVES. YOU WILL SEE WHAT NDC WOULD DO TO YOU IF GHANAIANS REJECT YOU FOR YOU INACTION TO PUNISH THEM.
why should this be politicized in the first place? that is the reason the country is suffering and you typing NDC/NPP you will suffer the most.
But seriously this head of security of Gridco must go read the laws of this country on security. No private security agencies in this country is allowed to hold arms by our laws so how can company security who are not state security had access to arms on duty to shoot to kill. is he a serious security officer. i know Gridco security are not armed on duty so what is he talking about or he just not to say something for the President to see he is working and this man is a major.
das all shoot them on site those nation wreckers are implementing ofosu ampofo tactical plans to win elections, I think if one or two is shot they will think twice, ediots
IT IS JOHN MAHAMA AND ELDER OFOSU AMPOFO WHO ARE SPONSORING THESE HOOLIGANS TO DO SO. ELDER OFOSU AMPOFO CLEARLY SAID IT ON HIS TAPE WHICH WAS LEAKED. OFOSU AMPOFO AND JOHN MAHAMA CAN NOT ESCAPE BLAME. THEY ARE FULLY AWARE AND BOTH OF THEM KNOW THE PEOPLE BEHIND THESE ATROCITIES.
Maj. Lawrence Appiah thank you for statment. This is an uncivilised and unpatroitic Actions from a Group of unselfish ghanaians. Ghana must learn lesson from the Region of Delta in Nigeria. Group of nigerians siffing Petrol from Pipelines in Nigeria caused a lot of life in Nigeria. But it raises a lot of Questions. What is the Motive of theses Actions of These People. A political Motive?? To make Akufo Addos goverment unpopulat through dumsor??? If this is your Motive, theen it will not lead you anywhere. Stop and think. Ghana is not for any political Party. Our peacful Country is for all of us. By the way who ever sent you or gave you Money to do such Evil Things, remeber their Children are not in Ghana. All thier Children are outside the Country, studying and enjoying better life in Europe and America or else where. Stop and think About our peaceful Country.
Junior, NPP are not ani*mals like you, they have brains of human beings so know how it is necessary for Ghana to succeed and if they didn't do that in opposition why will they do that in power? Ndc has no message to sell to the people so think kidnapping, killing and setting government installations to fire will help them how that will help them is up to them, we don't like you and your Charlie wate economic team, Ghana is a serious nation and we don't need nkurasefuo to rule us! people who think infrastructure is governance, who doesn't tackle infrastructure even Gen. Acheampong did much more infrastructure than ndc 27 years ***barred word*** rule! who can compare the infrastructure of President Kuffuor to ndc 8 ***barred word*** years ? John mahama said the much infrastructure by President Kuffuor was an act of mediocrity and what has changed for the ndc to boast of uncompleted buildings and no show roads? Stop your nkurasesem and tell us what you did and what you intend to do,not setting installation on fire will bring back john mahama! Ndc will rot in opposition! No matter what you do to Ghana will bring you back! wicked, wicked people ,cruel and callous ndc ! Never again will we allow wicked unpatriotic nation wreckers ever near our seat of government!
