A family of six, including two infants, on Sunday night died on the spot at Sankpala in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region when their green Opel Astra Caravan with registration number GT 2769X was crashed by a Kumasi-bound Neoplan bus.
The solon car, after being smashed by the bus, caught fire and somersaulted repeatedly while the bus with registration number GT 1089F veered off the main highway and landed in a ditch.
Minor injuries were sustained by those sitting on the front row of the bus but had since been treated and discharged.
The identities of the deceased persons, however, as at press time, were not known in view of the state of the bodies. But Daily Guide had gathered that they were moving from Buipe towards Tamale when the incident happened.
Eyewitnesses told Daily Guide the driver of the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle when he run into the lane of the salon vehicle and immediately lost control.
When Daily Guide arrived at the scene, police from Tamale were at work directing road users to alternate routes to ease the traffic that had built up while personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were being called to clear the accident scene.
The bodies of the six have since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, personnel of the MTTU are cautioning road users to exercise restraint each time they are driving at night as the yuletide approaches, warning that deviant drivers would ruthlessly be dealt with.
