A Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number GR 5182-15 was completely burnt by fire on Wednesday, March 22.
The fire on the Cape Coast-bound bus started when the vehicle got to Opeikuma junction and the 35 passengers on bound had to alight to escape the heat.
It took the intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to douse the inferno.
A passenger travelling on the bus told Accra FM that the bus took off from Kaneshie and the engine went off when the vehicle got to Sakaman junction.
“However, the driver did not get down to check the reason for the car’s sudden stop. When he started the engine, there were strange noises from the tyres but we still continued the journey. When we got to the [Opeikuma] junction, one tyre burst, so all the passengers decided to alight. Few minutes later, thick smoke started emerging from beneath the bus. When we checked, it was fire,” he narrated.
According to him, most of the luggage were retrieved from the car and no passenger was hurt in the incident, but the vehicle was completely burnt.

the diver must be held responsible
Thank God no lives were lost. Most of these Metro buses are not maintained at all. They just park and drive from the terminal stations everyday. There is no technical person at the terminal to check to see if the Metro buses are road worthy. Typical Ghanaian attitude.
THIS IS SAD CONSIDERING THE PRESENT STATE OF THE ECONOMY. HOWEVER MY ATTENTION WAS DRAWN TO THE FIREMEN TRYING TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND THE OBSERVERS AROUND TAKING VIDEOS OF THE BURNING BUS WITH THEIR PHONES. ONLY ONE FIREMAN HAD A HARD HAT ON AND THE RISK OF AN EXPLOSION ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF THE OBSERVERS WHO ARE CARELESSLY WATCHING. THIS IS REALLY ABSURD..... WE JUST CAN'T DO THINGS RIGHT. HOPEFULLY NO LIVES WERE LOST IN THE BUS THOUGH.
WE THANK THE ALMIGHTY LORD FOR SAVING THESE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM THE JAWS DEATH. MAWU AKPE
@antoa i think they went there with u and that is how come u know and i bet u that u are what they will use as thanksgiving if not u then ur parents so be prepared to either burry ur parents or they bury u first. @nii djan, that antoa guy is just a phoolish ***barred word*** who i think went to antoa to seek for help but didnt get and thunder is what will strike him ded. Thanks be to God for saving their lives after all we take it as it is our tax which was burnt
We thank God for saving these precious lives. God have mercy on our dear Land Ghana!!!
Oh! the Blackman. Instead of we scientifically questioning those who bought these inefficient buses and painted them with 3 million oil money, we are sadly attributing these happenings to the gods. No wonder we are where we are.
Antoa deity is seriously demanding his thanksgiving from Akuffo Addo's gov't. Rev Owusu bempah, won't you pay what you promised your lords. Ghanaians are not sacrificial lambs. Please, use your relatives.
The driver might be crazy, he wanted to commit suicide. Thank God everyone was safe.
Coordinated drama to paint the past government bad. If you look at the whole scenario, the suspicion is clear, the driver knew what he was about. How can a driver refuse to check an engine that has gone off on its own and continues the journey. Interestingly, all the baggage of the passengers were retrieved before the fire could start. There was no commotion and the passengers were all safe, which is good. This is a case of arson.
