Six members of a gang, calling itself “Gonja Boys”, who went on the rampage at Abuakwa and inflicted deep machete wounds on one Collins Opoku, are now in the firm grips of the law.
They are Gabriel Abdulai, alias “War”, Masa Awudu Issa, alias “Abodie”, Iddrisu Mohammed, Musa Alidu, Abdul Basit, Shamel Mohammed, Abdul Shabuku and Ibrahim Yahaya, alias “Butterfly”.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ken Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told a press briefing in Kumasi, that the suspects were arrested last Saturday, at about 1800 hours.
Armed with machetes and other offensive weapons, they stormed a place where a funeral was being held to avenge an alleged attack on one of the gangsters by somebody, they named as “Rebel Leader”.
He said there was total confusion, during which, they inflicted deep machete cuts on the victim – Opoku.
DCOP Yeboah said the police quickly moved in, when they received information about the rampage and managed to seize two of them – Abdulai and Issa.
The remaining were arrested the next day based upon intelligence.
The eight have already been put before the Nkawie Circuit Court and remanded to make their next appearance on May 04.
