The eight suspected killers of Major Maxwell Mahama who were arraigned last Friday included the snail seller who allegedly gave a false alarm that led to the lynching of the army officer.
The snail seller, whose name was given as Akosua Takyiwaa, aka Maame Bono, is said to have raised the false alarm by calling the Assembly Member for the Denkyira Obuasi, who mobilized people to allegedly kill the soldier.
The arrest of the eight has brought the number of suspects picked up by the police in connection with the gruesome murder to 52
They have all been remanded in prison custody.
Captain Mahama had reportedly stopped to buy snails, and when he took money from his pocket to pay for the snails, the trader saw the pistol and reportedly informed the assemblyman of Denkyira Obuasi that the young military officer was an armed robber.
This was made known two weeks ago at a joint press conference by the Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Police at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
According to the police, without verifying the identity of Captain Mahama, the assemblyman and armed townsfolk accosted the military officers, gave him a chase, shot at him, and eventually pounced on him using cement blocks, clubs, among others, until he died around 10am on Monday, two hours after he had started the jogging.

I'm happy most of you are judging the woman right. She did nothing wrong. The blame/cause of all the lynching in the society must be put on the corrupt police and the judiciary. Highways in the rural Western Region frequently experience armed rubbery attacks. If you were in their shoes, you'd support instant justice. Hypocrisy everywhere. When the Taxi driver tried to smash two armed rubbers, the whole nation was happy. The president even awarded a house to his honour. Very unfortunate, but the folks also expressed their frustrations.
The lady in question did nothing wrong, as a responsible good citizen of Ghana, she thought it wise to inform the Assembly man of the village, she could have shouted on top of her voice to raise a robbery alarm, if she wasn't stationed there to raise force alarm, then I see nothing wrong with her action, and the Assembly man rather should known better
r we still talking this snail bullshit. We knw there is more to it. please
PLEASE FELLOW GHANAIANS WHY DO TOU BLINDLY ACCUSE AN INOCENT LADY WHO JUST PERFORMED HER CIVIC DUTIES AS A GOOD CITIZEN? MAJOR MAHAMA WAS NOT IN UNIFORM, HE HAD A GUN ON HIM, HOW WOULD YOU PEOPLE DESCRIBE A PERSON LIKE THIS IN YOUR SOCIETY? SHE DID THE RIGHT THING BY REPORTING WHAT SHE SAW TO ASSEMBLE MAN WHOM SHE BELIEFS KNOWS BETTER. THE ASSEMBLY MAN IS THE CAUSE NOT THE LADY PLEASE.WHAT PREVENTED THE ASSEMBLY FROM SEEKING MAJORS IDENTITY? I AM APPEALING YOU GOOD LAWYERS IN THE COUNTRY TO RESCUE THIS POOR LADY FROM THIS CALAMITY AND GOD WILL REWARD YOU ABUNTANTLY . WE NEED MORE OF SUCH LADIES TO FIGHT CRIME IN OUR MOTHER LAND. MAY GOD PROTECT YOU YOUNG LADY . SHAMEFUL ASSEMBLY MAN. AND TO ALL GHANAIANS UNTILL WE STOP SELECTING OUR LEADERS BY THEIR PARTY AFFILIATION AND BY THEIR PHYSICAL LOOK, HMMMMM SUCH CALAMITIES MAY NOT BE FAR FROM US. LETS VOTE HIM HE IS HAND SOME, HE IS TALL, HE BOLONGS TO OUR PARTY , ENE YEN NNE
NOW, jxt any illerate people get up and take position in the country.
This woman did right thing so those of you critizing needs to stop.. So are some of you telling us that when we see someone who is not in uniform or anything with arms possession i should keep quiet and not make any report..She was just suspicious and I tell you if u live in area where there is a crime rate, I dont think you will keep quiet when u see someone with arms. So stop this hypocrite behavior. If there is any blame, they should blame the Assemblyman.. If we not careful the next time anyone sees someone illegally with arms.. we all going to keep quit..
she is the beginning and the end of major Mahama's premature death. without her the Major would have still been alive today. I will say she was the Judas
are we still going with armed robbery cock and bull story? We do realize there is more to this story than that right?
She did the right thing cos i think she became frightened when she saw the gun and could have blown an alarm for the people to lynch him bt she was wise enough to tell the assemblyman bt the so called assembly man with his immatured act summoned his people to lynch the innocent guy. who told u arm robbers dont pay for things they buy. I think she feared the gunn
Clearly, this lady performed a civic duty required of every citizen. She reported what appeared to her to be suspicious, though not to the police, but to an important local rep of the state, an assemblyman, who is supposed to know better. Unless she was part of those who participated in the gruesome act, she should not be troubled further though she would continue to regret the otherwise noble civic duty she performed. Meanwhile, if you consider that the Somanya police attack issue was also alleged to have been led by an assemblyman, then we really need to have assemblymen tutored very well.
