The Auditor General, Daniel Dormelevo has intensified calls for the grant of authority to the office of the Auditor General to prosecute and surcharge individuals who infringe on procurement laws.
His comments come in the wake of some GHS 5.4 billion wrongfully paid to contractors and other service providers by officials at various ministries between 2014 to 2017.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, February 5, Mr Dormelevo said his office has already applied to the Attorney General’s office to be given a fiat to prosecute individuals found culpable.
“Do you have prosecutorial powers? No, I don’t have, as at now completely zero. Can I hav? Yes! That is if a fiat is given by the Attorney General to Audit Service just like he has given to the police and others to prosecute…If I get that fiat, you will see me in action,” he explained.
He said the his department has a legal division who scrutinize cases before being made public and the Attorney General’s office has so much work hence if he is given the authority to prosecute, surcharging can be expedited to retrieve wrongly paid monies.

HABA, PLEASE GIVE HIM THE POWERS SO THAT ALL OF MAHAMA BOYS AND GIRLS WILL GO AND VISIT NSAWAN. THIS MAN MEANS BUSINESS PLEASE HIM FOR GHANA TO SUCEED IN ELIMINATING CORUPTION. AG DO EVERYTHING TO HELP GHANA, WE NEED THE MONEY TO FINANCE FREE SHS, ZONGO DEVELOPMENT FUND,ONE FACTORY ONE DAM PROJECT. LETS KEEP THE NDC IN OPPOSITION FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.
Any effort geared towards elimination of corruption is welcomed. The Attorney General should give prosecutorial powers to the Auditor General to go after corrupt government officials in Ghana. Or else whatever Akuffo Addo is doing will be in vain, if the evil NDC comes back to power. Kuffour did it, and the NDC came to power to destroy it. It will become a vicious cycle.
You will get it. Just speak to Nana Addo. Ao Ghana! Hmmm.
Very good job done. You are the kind of people Ghana needs. Kudos to Occupy Ghana too for 'activating' the Auditor General's responsibility to the state.
"We are together again just praising the Lord, we are together again with one accord. Something good is going to happen, something good is in store, we are together again just praising the Lord." Thank God for this reawakening against corruption in Ghana. May God bless Nana Addo, Martin Amidu, Kusi Boafo, Daniel Domelevo, and all who as individuals and institutions have offered themselves selflessly to fight this canker of corruption, endemic in our society. Let's all come together to fight it.
