First Vice Chairperson of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, says the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu is “naked”.
Hajia Hamdatu alleged that, some senior police officers eyeing the position are sabotaging the IGP. “IGP Asante-Apeatu is not going anywhere so those sabotaging him in the police service must stop”, she fumed.
The Police chief is in hot waters following the wave of robbery attacks sweeping through the capital.
Many including the Minority in Parliament say the IGP has lost focus, noting that the seeming confidence of the robbers, especially in Accra and Tema shows how security has broken down in the country.
The only solution, the Minority suggests is for the IGP, Asante-Apeatu to resign since in their opinion, he has no business being in office in the face of the heightened crimes.
But in defense, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim on Adom FM said calls for the IGP to be sacked are being fueled by his own people.
She explained that, some embittered police chiefs are creating the insecurity in the country to make the IGP “unpopular”.
“Let me tell them: the IGP is going nowhere. He is a fine gentleman acknowledged internationally as a good police officer so support him to work”, the CPP Vice Chairperson opined.
Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim maintained that, until the police bring all hands on deck, the country’s security will be porous even if the current IGP is sacked.
She also chided the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for seeking to score cheap political points with such a volatile issue.
“The robbery incidence in the country is too serious so let’s not politicize it. The NDC and NPP must stop interfering in police work and allow the security agencies to work” she added. Hajia Hamdatu also cautioned the media to be circumspect when discussing security issues in order not to give leads to criminals.

SERIOUSLY HAJIA HAMDATU, YOU MEAN YOU KNOW SENIOR OFFICERS IN THE POLICE SEVICE SABOTAGING THE IGP BECAUSE THEY ARE EYEING THE POSITION OF THE IGP? IS THAT WHERE THE SITUATION HAS GOTTEN UP TO? WONDERFUL. HAJIA HAMDATU SHOULD BE A GOOD WITNESS IN COURT TO POINT OUT THESE D*EVIANT SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS WHO WOULD WISH TO GAIN POSITIONS AT THE EXPENSE OF THE SECURITY OF GHANAIANS. THE IGP SHOULD PICK HAJIA UP FOR QUESTIONING BECAUSE OUR (GHANAIANS INCLUDING THE IGP) SECURITY IS MUCH MORE PARAMOUNT TO ANYONE'S PERSONAL POSITION. SO IF THESE ALLEDGED POLICE OFFICERS FAIL TO ACHIEVE THEIR AIM AFTER TERRORISING GHANAIANS WILL THEY GO AFTER THE IGP OR THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF TO ACHIEVE THEIR D*IRTY AMBITIONS IF WHAT YOU SAID IS ANYTHING TO GO BY. MAY GOD SAVE GHANA.
Madam you wrong, are the officers the ones who told him to abandon the otherwise effective visibility program? Or did anyone ask him to deploy very effective operational officers to do desktop jobs because of perceived political leanings? Let's stop this lazy analysis and tackle the problem head-on, after all when the robbers stole everything from my room they did not ask whether I am N.P.P. or N.D.C
