Some unemployed nurses who are against the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO) initiative launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, have said they are disappointed in the government.
According to them, they were promised a permanent job by Mr Akufo-Addo when he was campaigning ahead of the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections and not the NaBCO programme.
Members of the Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses are expected to hit the streets of Accra today, Monday, 7 May 2018.
The group is opposing attempts by government to enroll its members into the Heal Ghana module of the NaBCO initiative with a monthly salary of GHS 700.
The programme which was launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo last week, is expected to provide the teeming unemployed graduate youth, jobs under several modules including nursing, teaching, ICT etc.
But according to the nurses, the scope of the NaBCO policy puts health professionals at a disadvantage.
They fear once they are enrolled under the programme, the Ministry of Health will relent on its efforts to get them financial clearance to become permanent staff of the Ministry.
Some of them who spoke to Accra News' Nana Amoako Gyampah said: “We feel disappointed in the president because that is not what he promised, we want a permanent job, not this short term contract.”
Another nurse said: “We are picking up signals that when the NDC wins the next elections they will cancel the programme and so when that happens what are we going to do? We are scared and so we don’t want this NaBCO.”

John mahama and his ndc are not coming today or tomorrow and you can't intimidate the goverentire with your poor spelling, is it deceit or deciet and how can such people who call themselves nurses read Doctors prescriptions to give the correct medication and dose, nurses who can't read, nurses who can't spell how can they read Doctors hand writing? Are these the type of nurses we need in our hospitals? Look at what they wrote on the banner of their disunity walk with their ***barred word*** president, and are these the nurses we need? Atiwiifuo nurses to kill innocent people. Silly ***barred word***'s
This is not an NPP NDC issue. The Ghana govt must wake up to the peculiar realities in this country. We have a poor nurse to patient ratio. We can pay politicians 2x for doing nothing. We spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on footballers who are already well to do. But are we saying we cannot pay people who we need to develop sustainably? When these same jobless nurses find work in other countries, we find the president go to them begging them to "COME HOME AND HELP BUILD MOTHER GHANA" Is that not PURE NOONSENSE??? Ghana is being run by STUPPPPIDDDD politicians and we must end this misuse of national resources for the benefit of ***barred word*** politicians.
HOW MANY NURSES DID JOHN DRAMA MAHAMA EMPLOY? IT IS PAINFUL WHEN PEOPLE WHO ARE SUPPOSE TO KNOW BETTER RATHER DECEIVE THE PUBLIC.
NOW YOU SEE COMMENTATORS RUNNING FOR COVER. DID YOU NOT KNOW JOBS CAN'T BE CREATED FOR EVERYONE AND YET YOU MADE GHANAIAN CITIZENS BELIEVED JOHN MAHAMA WAS EVIL... WE CAN'T BE ***barred word*** NO MORE...WE WILL KICK YOU OUT AND FACE THE REALITY.
Nana promised about restoring the Nurses Allowance and he delivered. He also place almost all the Unemployed Nurses left by Mahama. So who are these Nurses saying He promised a permanent job? Stop your Nansence and get on with the NaBCO. Everyone want to hold the Government into Ransom all because of Votes including even NDC die hards. Any 1ddioottt can threaten not to Vote for Nana
THIS NURSES SHOULD BLAME THEMSELVES AND STOP CRYING FOR JOB AND APOLOGIZE TO EX PRESIDENT MAHAMA FOR THE INSULT THEY METED OUT ON HIM FOR JOB MATTERS. AKUFO ADDO LIE TO YOU DURING CAMPAIGN TIME AND THE QUESTION IS ARE YOU GUYS BLIND DURING WHEN HE WAS PROMISING YOU WITH LIE? IN FACT, LOOK FOR SAMMY AWUKU WHEN HE SAYS ALL NURSES WILL BE POSTED AFTER GRADUATION UNDER AKUFO ADDO, WHERE IS HE TODAY? PLS LOOK FOR HIM.
What is our country turning into? If you don't like it aa, leave it eh. mtcheww....
Which country can give jobs to everyone in system? Even in advanced countries, there are unemployment. The fact that u finished nursing school means the government is obliged to find u jobs after clearance. The complains are becoming too much. We all have to look beyond working for gov or for someone and thrive to be self employed. That goes without saying, we should not undertake any course just because most people are doing it. Take up courses that can help u in build your own business. We need that wisdom and not being heavily reliant on any government. They may promise, can’t do it all.
