Twelve persons have been confirmed dead Monday morning after two vehicles collided at Mankranso in the Ashanti region on the Kumasi-Sunyani highway.
The incident happened few kilometers from the spot where dancehall artist Ebony lost her life.
The accident occurred between a ford minibus registered AS 7257-15 and a Benz cargo truck with registration number GR 2624-14 heading to Dormaa Ahenkro from Kumasi.
The two vehicles had a head-on collision leading to the death of the passengers mostly in the ford vehicle. The driver of the ford also died in the crash. Initial information suggests the Ford veered off its lane and ran into an oncoming bus.
The bodies of the dead, said to be travellers on a Ford mini bus, have been deposited at the Mankranso government hospital.
Police in the Ashanti region has confirmed the incident.

The frequent road accidents are due to the constant increase in the number of vehicles on our intercity highways whilst the roads have not seen any corresponding expansions. Just look at the kumasi-accra, accra-takoradi-elubo, kumasi-sunyani-tamale, accra-aflao roads: these are single lane intercity roads that should essentially be dual carriages due to the around-the-clock heavy traffic on these roads. The government must, as a matter of urgency, have critical thoughts about road sizes and networks in the country. That is the only way to stop the constant fatal accidents on our inter-city roads. The i-d-i-o-t-i-c road safety campaigns will achieve nothing, it is a ***barred word*** idea in our present situation.
