The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kwame Yeboah, has expressed suspicion that some outsiders joined Monday’s protest by students.
According to him, the level of damage done to property cannot be carried out by level-headed students of the University.
Property yet to be quantified were vandalized by protesting students, who claim the school’s security has not been fair to them over the past week.
They claim some of them were brutalized last week during an unprovoked gathering.
Motorbikes and bicycles at the main security post of KNUST were set ablaze by the marauding students while some cars parked at the administration block had their windows and windscreens smashed.
Speaking in an interview with Onua FM after the incident, Mr Yeboah said he highly suspects that non-students joined Monday’s protest.
He said the students’ action is a manifestation of talks by some elements way back after the University decided to allow female freshers into some halls of residence – precisely University Hall and Unity Hall.
“The number of students who showed up were surprising to me,” Mr Yeboah said.
“I can say for sure that many of them are not students,” he insisted.
He backed his claim by citing how arrests made over the past weeks have captured some non-students.
He said the non-students – some of whom are alumni – infiltrated the ranks of students, particularly those at Univerity Hall, popularly known as Katanga.
He said there was mass looting when cars were destroyed on Monday.
Mr Yeboah was not happy with the posture of police officers called in to forestall further violence.
According to him, the officers of the Ghana Police Service looked on as the students destroyed property.
He said the action of the students is a threat to the country’s future if they will only resort to violence to have their grievances resolved.

See this PRO,Always blaming Katanga for everything. Thought u said making it a mixed Hall will bring peace to the university. See how shallow minded u are. And those talking against the destruction of properties if I may ask are properties more important than Human lives? When the students were being brutalized u were quite nd they destroy properties nw u are accusing them.shd they sit down and die one after the other?4
cant you think of it--if the old student vandalize all the property in the past will you people come and enjoy this property that you guys have vandalize.....if you want to be respected ,first behave like a human before you can be respected...the school has laws so if you think you cant cope, pack you bag and leave the school so the responsible and self respected human being can go and learn..when you finish vandalizing all you properties ,COME AND LEARN IN MY KITCHEN ;;;kwasiasem'''
Stop treating university students as kids......dont expect them to reason when u treat them as kids.... VC must go
Are you serious at all?. How do you justify this destruction and indiscipline. Are students not human beings who are expected to reason.? This attitude must stop. Students should be made to pay.
Kan, it is force not false
Oh so this m.0.r.0.n of a PRO wanted the Police to brutalize the students again. Mr. PRO have you heard the old adage "IF PERSUASION FAILS, FALSE MUST BE APPLIED". ***barred word***... Next time they'll come and meet you in your house...
