A victim of kidnapping has revealed the harrowing experience she had when she was abducted by some unknown men after she boarded a taxi at Tema community 18 block factory.
According to Abena, not her real name, even though the taxi driver and the passenger she met in the car looked like regular people, they were kidnappers, as she later got to know.
“Last week Thursday around 7pm, I came to 18 block factory from Tema. I joined a loading taxi. I found myself at a bus stop with a gentleman only. As we moved, another gentleman joined us in the taxi at another stop. When he joined, he pushed my head under the seat and they asked me to cooperate with them. The gentlemen asked me if I had cash on me. At the time, I had only GHC40 with me. They asked for my phone and transferred all the money I had in my mobile money account.
“At a point, one of the gentlemen told me something has intervened on my behalf so they won’t take me to Sehwi. They later removed my top and tied it around my head and threw me out of the taxi. I later screamed for help and some people came to my aid. A Good Samaritan took me to his house and I freshened and was later sent home, “ she recounted on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban Wednesday.
She noted the experience has left her traumatized and scared of her movement.
“I was so traumatized that I was indoors a great part of the time until family and friends came around to ask questions. We went to MTN to verify if the transfer was successful and to which number the cash was sent to. Fortunately on my part, the transfer was not successful. We later proceeded to the Police Station and I wrote my statement. I’m so traumatized and afraid to step out. I don’t sleep well at night. When I close my eyes I see the beginning and the end of what happened”.
There have been rising spate of kidnappings in Ghana lately.
Last week, two Canadians who were kidnapped in Kumasi in the Ashanti region were rescued by the security agencies and have returned home. However, the three girls who were taken in Takoradi since last year are yet to be seen.
Some Nigerians living in Ghana have been arrested along with some Ghanaians over the crimes.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana has appealed to the media and the public to be circumspect with their reports and commentary on crimes committed by Nigerians.
According to the High Commission, it is unfair for all Nigerians in Ghana to be branded criminals because some have been involved in the spate of crimes in the country.
” Suffice to say that at times like this, a situation where five (5) Ghanaians in company of three (3) Nigerians allegedly kidnapped two (2) Canadians but seems to enjoy wider press coverage as a crime committed by the Nigerians and considers Ghanaians only as accomplices leave much to be desired on the objectivity of such report. In the light of the above, the High Commission wishes to appeal to the local traditional media and social media to be highly circumspect in such reportage”.

You cannot engage in armed robbery or kidnapping in Togo. Never!. The security Agencies are very strict and alert. What are our security Agents doing
Asem, yes its a xenophobic attack on a particular set of same black human race, who dint ask to be born but found themself there, it could be you (a hard working, delight and upright man on the receiving end of racism or xenophobic attack because some lazy bastards chose the wrong trade, just to spoil to whole nations hard working population). Being born of a certian race, geographic region is not your chioce, that's why the Human Rights Commission, ECOWAS and many body had come together proposing laws for peaceful cohabitation of humans of different, region and race to live together, including the mighty and less powerful to be treated equally and with respect. Too bad you where not born in Somalia or in war thorn or Isis thorn Country. The way you treated him HIGH Commissioner whom you have described as having low IQ is wrong, if someone refer to you as that in your place of work, i bet you will have resurrected your own babalawo stand or judge his mentality as, myopic and uncivilized . Goverment, the parliament and the police have advice the public not to incite xenophobic tendencies because it will destroy the relationship between the two countries, example is being found now at the Ashanti Suame market where non kidnappers traders shop are being vandalized. If this is done in European countries angaist Africans, we will complain, why not live as one and treat criminals and encourage the hard working population, fish out the few bad eggs and grow the country, increase it GDP Ghana still remains the 3 most peaceful county in the world, lets work hard with the law enforcement agencies and fish out the bad eggs and lets stop coming on air, social media to be making empty talk, let work with the security agencies to promote this long lasting peace we are enjoying today. God bless Ghana
These Hardened Criminals mostly Lazy Nigerians who are engaged in Kidnapping Ghanaians and other Nationals should be deported back to their Homeland to allow us enjoy our peaceful Country Ghana. Formerly we rarely hear of Kidnapping cases until Ofosu Ampofo was caught in leaked audio tape. I am appealing to AG and the Ghana Police Service to expedite the prosecution process on Ofosu Ampofo Criminal charges levelled against him. He must face full rigorous of the Law. The NDC Party in general is full of CORRUPT people whose interest is to come to power and amass WEALTH FOR THEMSELVES and their Girl FRIENDS NOTHING ELSE! As for proper Governance they DON'T have any idea, what they know is to leave huge DEBT DEFICIT any time they are leaving Office.
The Security Agencies should shoot any Kidnapper who is physically caught in the act, today Daavi Fuseni is Kidnapped the next day Adwoa Rose is also Kidnapped. what is happeninnnnng in this Country. I blame that ***barred word***, ***barred word*** and ***barred word*** Ofosu Ampofo for inciting these criminals. I am tired of this nonsensical behavior of Few Lazy Nigerians who are actively involved in Kidnapping innocent People for NO reason.
I find the statement by this high commissioner(who happens to have low IQ) very insulting! There is a background and context to the involvement of the Ghanaians: they were simply willing accomplices. Nigerians tried to recruit and train kidnappers from all over the country but failed and the five Ghanaians were the only gullible ones who fell into the trap. You can even tell they are novices given the manner in which they conducted the operation! Every body in the world (including the commissioner himself) know that nigerians are experts in armed robbery and kidnapping. Was this high commissioner(or rather low commissioner given his IQ level) expecting the media to gloss over the several cases of kidnappings involving nigerians? If they are used to kidnappings then that is their cup of tea but they must know that in Ghana kidnapping is a very serious crime and we completely abhor it! This is a country of law and order and if you find yourself within our borders then you must obey our laws! Doee he understand the word xenophobia? Three families are yet to set eyes on their daughters after they were kidnapped and at the heart of this crime was a Nigerian who even jumped lawful custody! He should shut his Babalawo mouth!
we thank God
