Peacefmonline.com can confirm that the presidential primaries of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) set for the month of July in Sunyani will be a two-horse race following the decision by one of the three contestants to opt out of the contest.
Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, one of the contenders, withdrew from the race on Wednesday after what peacefmonline.com gathers are difficulties faced in getting his forms endorsed.
Incidentally, today is the deadline for filing of nomination forms by contestants for the NDC presidential seat, thus Spios inability to submit his forms means he is automatically out of the race.
As a result, former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings who submitted her forms earlier Wednesday will lock horns with Professor Mills in a battle fit for the gods for the flagbearership position of the NDC.
President Mills nomination was filed by some known NDC women led by Barbara Asamoah on Monday.
Mohammed Nasiru, spokesperson for Dr. Garbrah confirmed the decision to the media. According to him, the withdrawal was as a result of difficulties faced by the latter in getting his forms endorsed.
"To save the party from unnecessary delays and ensure smooth running of elections, he decided to pull out," he said.
It is believed that the former Vice-Chairman of the NDC had contemplated asking national executives of the party to extend the date of the deadline.
