President Mills does not only believe in the Most High God, he can through the aid of the Supreme Being perform incredible miracles as well, if the account of a Deputy Minister of Information, Baba Jamal is to be swallowed hook, line and sinker. And theres no need to doubt him.
Call it the Birim River Miracle and you will not be far from right. It is akin to the Bethsaida miracle where Jesus Christ walked halfway across the Sea of Galilee. But that was in Israel; whiles this happened in Ghana.
Deputy Minister of Information, Baba Jamal says President Millsďż˝ presence in the Eastern region where the Birim River after breaking its banks, claiming five lives, destroying over 500 homes and rendering about 3,000 people homeless, averted what could have been a national disaster.
According to him, the water that had flooded the Kwaebibirem district for almost a week all but dried up as soon as President Mills visited the area.
President Mills, on Monday, paid a visit to the Eastern Region to assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods in Akyem Oda, Kade and surrounding towns and communities after the Birim River overflowed its banks.
More communities in the Eastern Region continue to be hit by the disaster following recent heavy downpour in the region. Parts of the Kade constituency have been cut off entirely due to the severe flooding.
Recounting the glorious miracle on Peace FMs Kokrokoo Morning show, Baba Jamal said as soon as President Mills got to the area he sat in one boat and seeing the extent of damage caused by the floods, lifted his hands and asked for Gods mercies.
Incredibly, the water receded by the next day after President Mills prayerAs soon as President Mills got to the flooded areas, he stepped in a boat and he lifted his head up and prayed that God should show mercyBy the next day the flood had recededwe are proud to have this man as our president. His foundation is God and for a flooded area to dry up soon after his (Mills) visit, is an indication that the presence of the Lord was there, he said.
According to the Deputy Information Minister, some had surmised that god of the Birim River was angry with the chiefs for not performing pacification rites as requested, whiles others believed the activities of galamsey operators contributed to the flooding, but when President Mills arrived in the area, he showed that God is his foundation and the water eventually dried up.
Whiles lauding the efforts of the military and the Rapid Response team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), for their help in bringing the situation under control, he also added that one of the aircrafts which the government intends purchasing and which could hang in the air for close to 12 hours, would have been used to rescue the victims.
