Over the weekend, the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) held an election at Brong Ahafo to elect Regional Officers. The aim of the exercise is to keep the party apposite and propel it to greater heights in the 2016 general elections.
Peacefmonline.com was privileged to speak to Mr. Charles Owusu, an executive member of the party concerning the elections.
According to him, out of the over thousand and two hundred (1200) members of the party who attended the congress, nine hundred and fifty seven (957) delegates participated in the voting process.
Mr. Seth Gomnah emerged as the Brong Ahafo Chairman of the party. Other Executives include Vice Chairman Adum Atta Kwasi Prince, Regional Organizer Emmauel Oduro, Assistant Regional Organizer Alima Nyameke, Regional Treasurer Clement Kadaag Jnr. Regional Women Organizer Boahemaa Faustina, Asst. Women Organizer Quampah Bernice, Education Officer Sumaila Ibrahim and Youth Organizer Adjei Elvis.
For the next four years, the elected Regional Officers would serve the party and map out strategic plans which would bring the PPP to power.
Everything went on smooth at the congress grounds and for us the PPP, the campaign to win power has started, Mr. Owusu observed.
Asked about what distinguishes the PPP from the other political parties, Mr. Owusu raised certain salient points to answer the above question.
According to him, unlike the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party which believes in manifesto promises, the PPP believes in embarking on practical things to solve challenges facing us.
As a party, we dont have a manifesto and the simple reason is that we believe in doing practical things. Things like solving the erratic supply of power and completing the Nsawam- Suhum road dont need to be made a manifesto promise before completed, he said.
He also added that should the PPP be elected into office, separation of powers amongst the various arms of government would be put to force.
He explained that the current practice of giving legislators ministerial appointments would be abolished under the PPP in order to reduce the spate of corruption which has bewitched some politicians.
