The brute force unleashed by some officers of the Ghana Police to ward off demonstrators who had intended to picket the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has left the Ashanti Regional Chairman on a sick bed.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’ was targeted and attacked during the September, 2015 scuffle.
He was admitted at the Peace and Love Hospitals in Kumasi where he was treated for days.
Aside Chairman 'Wontumi', another leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Otchere-Darko was also severely whipped on the back by the police.
Other members of Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) and Movement for Change (MFC) who participated in the planned picketing at the premises of the Electoral Commission (EC) calling for a new voters register, were whipped into line whiles scores of them were arrested when they attempted deviating from prior approved routes.
The police, clad in full riot gear resorted to brute force by using horse whips, batons as well firing tear gas canisters and water cannons on the demonstrators for allegedly using unapproved routes in their march.
