About 100 youth of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Walewale constituency of the Northern Region have defected to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), following claims by the youth that they feel disrespected by executives of the party in the region.
Spokesperson of the defected youth Charles Mahama, in a news conference on Wednesday July 13 ahead of President John Dramami Mahama’s visit to the region, said: “We announce that we have deepened ties with the NPP fraternity.”
He further indicated that “perseverance and hard work will enable a change of government” in this year’s elections.
Meanwhile President Mahama has arrived in the region as part of his Accounting to the People tour. He is set to inaugurate and inspect completed and ongoing projects in the region.
