President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that his government will maintain the highest credibility in this year’s elections. Speaking at the graduation ceremony for military officers at the Ghana Military Academy Friday, the President who was in his full military ceremonial regalia said the government is also committed to ensuring that maximum level of security is provided throughout the country.
He assured, “all Ghanaians and indeed our foreign partners and well wishers that as a government, we will maintain the highest credibility of our elections and continue to do everything possible to safeguard our democracy.” He also acknowledged the role military would play towards a peaceful election. “In all these areas of concern, and indeed in all our efforts towards our national transformation and development agenda, we need the presence of our gallant soldiers in strength across the country.” President Mahama therefore noted that it is the goal of his government to create military presence across the country through the creation of military garrisons in each region across the country.
He believes “this will widen the scope of our vigilance, reduce operational reaction time to security operations and lessen administrative cost of the military operations.” Meanwhile, the President says he has approved the introduction of a Ghana government paid leave allowance of $700 for all ranks on external peacekeeping operations. This takes effect from the 1st of September, 2016. The ceremony was held at the Whistler Barracks at the Ghana Military Academy and Training School, Teshie.
Those who passed out comprise 29 Ghanaians and 5 foreigners for the Army, 17 for the Navy and 11 for the Airforce.
