President John Dramani Mahama has eulogised the late Dr Mrs Mary Grant as a “great woman”.
She died on Sunday September 18, 2016 at the 37 Military Hospital.
Mr Mahama wrote on Facebook on Monday September 19 that the former Council of State member was a “great woman of our modern era”.
The former member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) was 88 years old.
Dr Grant was the first Wesley Girls High School alumnus to be a medical doctor and was appointed Deputy Secretary of Health in 1985 in the Jerry John Rawlings-led PNDC regime. She was also a Deputy Minister of Health at a time. Dr Grant was also a Minister of Education and Culture.
She also chaired the National Council on Women and Development. Dr Grant was part of Ghana’s delegation to the Beijing women’s conference.

In 1985 when she was appointed in the PNDC I was employed in Obuasi at AGC and watched she empowered the girl child education and what we have to that we have lifted the education of the girl to the highest pedestal so we celebrated her and pray for her soul to have the peaceful rest.
