A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Edward Brenya, has questioned Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership qualities after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer said the party would say ‘thank you’ to any member who decides to quit as a result of losing an internal election.
During the Greater Accra leg of his campaign tour, the NPP flag bearer said members who quit after losing internal polls were not true members.
"Our party selects leaders though internal elections. I, myself, was elected through such a process. True party people stay with the party whether they win or lose. My colleague Alan Kyerematen, who I beat in our primaries, is still here with me. He even speaks on my behalf. However, if you lose internal elections and you get disgruntled and decide to leave the party, then you are not a true NPP member. So, if you say you are quitting the party because you lost an election, we will say: 'Thank you very much for your services, you go, we will stay and fight the fight and make the way to bring the victory to the NPP.' We don't give up, we don't fret, come what may, we are solidly behind the Elephant," the three-time flag bearer told party members at a rally at Shiabu, Dansoman, in the Ablekuma West constituency on Tuesday, 4 October.
But speaking to Class News, Dr Brenya said this kind of posturing raises more questions about the kind of leadership Nana Akufo-Addo will offer Ghanaians once elected as president.
"He is already being questioned that he is not the type that can unify people. I don't think that whatever has happened with Afoko, Kwabena Agyapong and others should have happened if Nana Akufo-Addo, right from the beginning, had actually exercised a level of [commitment] to unify people. He would have been able to handle it. NPP is not the first party to have seen these kinds of things that emerged but what have we seen? ...Other people were sacked in constituencies and it is going on and on. Now we have people that are going independent and the only thing you can tell them is 'thank you because you are not patriotic'? What kind of leadership is that? ... He needs to look at the human side of issues and remember that winning elections is about numbers and you do everything that it takes to get the numbers to support you," he stated.

Per your reasoning ,nana is not qualify to be president of Ghana. You told the lecturer that his own children Will leave his house when they become of age. Nana ado Still live in his fathers house so I can conclude that he is not Of age, probably mentally. Little wonder he talk the way He do; IMMATURELY !!!
You guys(for Nana and those against) should hold your fire. Someone well knit in English Grammar should help all of us here. The context of Thank you is deeper in meaning than all that being suggested. This is Chaucer stuff. I pity Nana for he needs to start speaking Ghana English grammar and this hatred will be over.
THERE ARE TWO THINGS INVOLVED HERE. ITS EITHER NANA ADDO IS ARROGANT AND INTOLERRANCE OR HE IS POLITICALLY STUU11P11D
Nana Addo lacks the wisdom to lead. King Solomon requested wisdom from God and become the best leader as a result. Definitely the NPP is perishing gradually because the standard bearer lacks wisdom yet it's followers refuse to acknowledge the ship sinking. Ghana would even be worse under Nana Addo's leadership.
Politics is about numbers, NOT BAD NUTS. Nana is right. The nation needs dedicated and disciplined minds to govern. Nana's statement is clear indication he is the man to vote for. Thank you Sir!
Dr or who ever u called urself where were u when prez mahamma when said he will prefers to loose the election than to pay the alawa? Go away from there some of u just hate Nana for no reason. Look this time none of u can influence we the poor to vote for John mahama. U can say all the negative things about Nana but we the poor will still vote for him this time. U guys have money so u don't care about what is going on in the country. If u only knew how we tired of John mahama and his people u won't come out with this ur bogus advise.
Dr. Brenda, do you remember when the primaries were held? From that time up until now they haven't being convinced and they choose to go independent God bless them , who should go and sleep in their house and beg them. We are marching forward they can swim behind.
"If persuasion fails, force must be applied". This statement does not work in politics. Do Dr Brenya want Nana Addo to chain them to stay should they refuse to be persuaded? The above statement is only possible in politics when there is discipline. The approach of Dr Brenya rather breeds corruption and lack of fairness. If Dr Brenya is principled, he would have endorsed Nana's approach.
The KNUST lecturer is right the winning an election is about numbers. However, I do not think Nana Akufu Addo's statement implied that persuasion would not have preceded any action by the aggrieved individual, who lost an internal election. Every leader worth his or her sorts would engage in behind the scene negotiation and persuasion in an effort to appease any such individual who decides to contest an election as in independent.
Dr Edward Brenya could join the NDC propaganda train rather than hiding under academia to be doing dirty politics. I observed his comments to represent a paid person doing the bidding of the governing party. His stature required better than talking like serial callers. Very sad to read his comments against NPP and never speaks agaisnt NDC.It will not be long he will find no space to attack NPP again I can assure him.
