President John Dramani Mahama has assured the chiefs and people of the northern part of Volta Region that their age-old petition for the creation of the Oti Region will be considered in his next term.
"It is possible to create a new region out of the Volta Region," he told ecstatic residents of Jasikan, one of the areas agitating for the creation of the region, last Tuesday.
The President, however, indicated that, the creation would have to go through the Constitutional process, which he would activate when he retains office.
He, therefore, urged the people to vote massively for the NDC on December 7 in order to make the promise a reality.President Mahama was responding to an appeal by the Paramount Chief of Buem Traditional Area, Nana Aburam Akpanja IV for the creation of the Oti Region.
The Paramount Chief spoke at a National Democratic Congress (NDC) rally at Jasikan as part of the President’s Volta Regional campaign tour. President Mahama said he was aware that the chiefs in that part of the region had long petitioned over the issue.Making reference to the 2016 NDC election manifesto, the President said it was possible to create five new regions.
Agitation
Agitation for the creation of the new region started in the Rawlings era and continued in the Kufuor administration.
It was spearheaded by Chiefs in the eight districts of Northern Volta namely Krachi-West, Krachi-East, Krachi-Nchumuru, Nkwanta-North, Nkwanta-South, Kadjebi-Akan, Jasikan and Biakoye.
Recently, the Paramount Chief of the Krachi Traditional Area, Nana Mprah Besemuna declared his support for the NDC manifesto to create five new regions and appealed to the President to consider Oti region as one of the new regions.
"We the people of northern Volta, started agitating for the creation of an Oti region out of the Volta region as early as the J.J Rawlings NDC administration. We renewed our demand again in the President Kufuor administration.
"We therefore pledge our full support for the creation of more regions in the country and wish to serve notice to the president humbly that, we already have our petition before government and hope it shall be favourably considered when the time comes," he told President Mahama at a durbar to climax the Yam Festival at Krachi.
Agriculture and roads
Touching on the agricultural potentials of the Jasikan Area, the President said one of the Farmer Service Centres that would be established in his second term would be located at Jasikan.
The centres would among other things provide tractor services, fertilisers, improved seeds, pesticides, agriculture extension services and mechanisation advice to farmers.
President Mahama also restated the promise to pursue the construction of the Eastern Corridor road to its completion. President Mahama said the Volta Region would continue to recieve its share of development and urged the people to reject the propaganda by the opposition that the government had neglected the he region.
Rains
Not even the afternoon downpour would stop NDC supporters from coming out in their numbers to meet their presidential candidate At Kadjebi, President Mahama spoke to hundreds of supporters who had waited in the rains for about an hour
“Come and vote “
The General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, urged registered Ghanaians living in neighbouring countries especially Togo to come home and vote on election day. He said no one has power to stop them from crossing the borders to cast their ballots. The NDC scribe said the party has targeted 30,000 votes in Jasikan. In the 2012 election the NDC had over 15,000 votes in the area.

When someone made mention of creating another region in the western region, your baby's with sharp teeth including that dwarf Samson Ahyi were jumping up and down that it wan't feasible. So what makes it feasible that you Mr President can create another region from the Volta Region. You are either desperate or incompetent and cant think far. Mutum Banza
The president doesn't stop making me laugh. Is he also not dividing the volta region. Incompetence at its best cannot think for himself but will insult the visionary and later copy.***barred word*** of a leader
In fact I love ECCLE.in the Bible which says the quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fo*ls.As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honour. The heart of the wise incline to the right, but the hearts of the fo*ls to the left, even as he walks along the road the fo*l lacks sense and shows everyone how stup*d he is. There is an evil I have seen under the sun the sort of error that arises from a ruler:Fo*ls are put in many high positions, while the rich occupy the low ones. I have seen slaves on horse backs ,while princes go on foot like slaves. Whoever digs a pit may fall into it and whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake, whoever quarries stones may be injured and words from a wise man's mouth are gracious, but a ***barred word*** like Jonathan lagos is consumed by his own lips. This is what the Bible says in ECCLE.chp.10 this bible quotation refers exactly to the ndc in government, when the fo*ls are giving big position while the ruck in skill are left alone and when the wisdom in Nana comes out these fo*ls rubbi*h it. Anything that is in the Bible and Quran are true and if we don't listen doom is what will visit us . Send these fo*lish thi*ves away for our country to move on.
This guy is sick! Seriously!
ANY EEDIOT JUST GETS UP AND SAY WHAT THEY WANT WITHOUT THINKING IT THROUGH. THIS IS NOT A PROMISE TO CREATE A REGION OUT OF THE VOLTA REGION. IT IS RATHER TO FACILITATE THE PROCESS THAT WILL ENABLE OTI TO BE CURVED OUT OF THE VOLTA REGION. THIS IS WHAT THE PEOPLE OF JASIKAN HAS ASKED FOR OVER THE YEARS, BUT NONE OF THE POLITICIANS SEEMED TO HAVE THE POLITICAL WILL TO DO SO. IT IS THE SAME INSTRUMENT THAT ENABLED FMR. PREZ. DR HILLA LIMANN TO CURVE WA OUT OF THE THEN TWO NORTHERN REGIONS. NOT TO SCORE CHEAP POLITICAL POINT BUT OUT OF NECESSITY. WHAT AKUFFO ADDO WENT TO DO AT WESTERN REGION WAS UNWARRANTED AND A MERE PROPAGANDA..HE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW THAT THERE ARE PROCESSES THAT NEED TO BE FOLLOWED IN ORDER TO CREATE A REGION. ALL HE KNOWS IS TO THROW OUT PROMISES HERE AND THERE AND EXPECT THE PEOPLE TO BUY IT.
very desperate and sinking man
He can't even be innovative....fff000lish man from the north
I'm suspecting this ndc president to be sick in his mind. A sitting president, copying opposition leader's ideas? Doesn't this man has brains to think? No wonder he has failed because those around him are all fo*ls who can't think but are being paid for their st*pidity. Imagine Julius Debrah thinking for you,the whole brains of that guy is full of cholesterol so how can a dying horse think? My fellow Ghanaians just drop these deadg*ats how can a carcass rule a nation? We need to vote for people with their brains alive not ndc deadbrains. They talk of Nana but the Oldman brains surpasses 100 of ndc leaders in government. The Oldman can sleep good and dream big, while the so called youth is having sleepless nights and ste*ling ideas from the Oldman what a joke Ghana has as an ndc president. Send them away they a bunch of fo*ls who don't even deserve to serve an assembly.
THIS MAN CALL MAHAMA NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE SOME OF US, WHAT DID NDC SAY WHEN NPP PROPOSED THE OTI REGION AT THE TIME THEY WERE ON OPPOSITION? THAT NPP WANTED TO RIG THE ELECTION AT THAT TIME ABI, MR MAHAMA YOU HAVE NEVER FULFIL ANY OF YOUR NUMEROUS PROMISES BEFORE SO DON'T DISTURB US AND THAT WASN'T ANTI-GHANA. PRESIDENT CHECK YOURSELF BECAUSE YOUR WIFE HAS NEVER CHALLENGED GHANAIANS TO TRUST YOU. PERHAPS SHE'S A VICTIM OF YOUR UNFULFILLED PROMISES. MAA BECKY SAYS WE (GHANAIANS) SHOULD TRUST HER AND THE HUSBAND, NANA ADDO WHAT ABOUT LORDINA
Mr President, is desperation; where have you been in all these eight years. Please be realized.
