President John Dramani Mahama, at the inaugural ceremony of the Kwame Nkrumah flyover last night disclosed that the facility is longest and the highest flyover in West Africa and he is confident it will decongest traffic flow which cost the country an estimated 100million dollars per annum.
Speaking at the inauguration he stated that his administration is committed to improving the transportation system in the country and is working feverishly towards that objective.
“Lack of traffic flow results in an estimated loss of about 100 million dollars per annum to our national economy,” he said.
“This is the longest flyover and the highest in West Africa…please note I said flyover, the longest bridge is in Lagos, Nigeria but the longest and highest flyover is in Accra, Ghana.”
“Time is a precious invaluable commodity and once spent, it cannot be recovered. Effective use of time, therefore, has a direct impact on our economy and must be calculated as a contribution to our GDP,” the President added.
President Mahama, stated that “With the opening of this interchange on which at peak hours is used by about 80,000 vehicles and daily it is estimated to be used by about 200,000 vehicles, reducing travelling time between the Ring Road Central and Feo Oyeo Intersection towards the North Industrial Area from two hours to just approximately five minutes, not only are we saving hundreds of millions of cedis in time wasted by the delay and the travel time, but we are also stimulating business and economic activity,” he added.
The estimated at $ 74 million project was jointly financed by the Brazilian government and the government of Ghana.
The project which stated in October, 2013, according to some experts, is the second of its kind after on it in Dubai.

When John Agyekum Kufuor renders account for all the land and money wasted at Tetteh Quarshie with all the traffic, Mahama will also account for the the circle interchange. Since you have decided to do more talking instead of listening mr. interchange flyover expect..... Obetsebi interchange is also in the pipeline please!!! A little reminder to all voters who make noise claiming Mahama's term is over..... Your vote is just one as we all do!!! So cry your own cry!!!
This interchange is not the best, the highest in West Africa. Abuja and Lagos have better interchanges. This amount of 74 million Euros could have constructed the fly over all the way to Obetsebi Lamptey Circle in order to completely take care of the traffic jam. Now, what will happen is that there will still be a huge jam from Obetsebi Lamptey all the way to Mantrac, therefore making none sense of the whole project. The whole project should not have cost more than USD30million. It is the fear of the day of reckoning that NDC want to kill Nana Addo so they won't face the music. Regardless of how long it take John Mhama will account for their stewardship one day.
Mahama can't still get it. This election is not about all that he is boasting about. THE TIME IS JUST UP FOR HIM AND HIS PARTY. This project is good and nice. Just like Mahama took challenge from Tetteh Quashie interchange by Kuffour, Nana and Bawumia will also be challenged to beat this record and that is how the country will develop. You can come after 8yrs Mr Prez. It is like 90min in football, NDC decided to let Mills captain their team for 1/3 of the match and Mahama captain the other 2/3. The ref has blown the whistle and the game is over. Free advice to Ghanaian politicians, if you want to be president of this country plan your ambition according to the 8yr cycle. If it doesn't suit you, sorry.
I am putting my money where my mouth is
