Some members of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday clashed with demonstrators in Odumase Krobo who are demanding an apology from Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea for saying that a university meant for the Eastern Region should have been located at Akyem rather than the Krobo area.
The clashes were sparked when supporters of the NPP prevented the demonstrators from entering the palace of the Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo, Nene Sackitey, with whom they were meeting over a planned courtesy call by the flag bearer of their party, Nana Akufo-Addo
The demonstrators had also gone to the palace to present a petition to the chief over their grievances.
The police had to intervene to forestall mayhem. The petition of the demonstrators co-signed by Evans Srenyame Tetteh and Ebenezer Kwasi Kpabitey, convener and organiser, respectively read: "Your Highness, you will recall that somewhere in February 2016 this year, the Parliament of Ghana passed the Eastern region University bill into Law. The said bill sited the main campus of the proposed university at Somanya with satellite campuses in other parts of the country. Atta Akyea (MP, Abuakwa South) launched a scathing attack on this noble idea. He went further to state that: ‘Krobos do not deserve a university’.
"This did not go down well with us as a group and to all Krobos in general. We have since called on him and the leadership of NPP to apologise to us but to no avail. As Nana Addo visits Krobo land today, we appeal to your Royal Highness to seek this apology on behalf of Krobo land.
"We want to use the medium to remind Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP that Krobos are not aliens in Eastern region and will thus not tolerate such irresponsible statements in the future. We are today marching peacefully in protest to Nana and his NPP's irresponsibility but we may react differently if they fail to apologise to all Krobos in general."

@ Nii, I don't think Steve insulted anyone. Your inability to engage in healthy debate exposes you as one who dabbles in violence. It is always said that, 'when they lose the debate, they resort to insults'. Between the two of you, one can see that Steve is educated and you just went to school. Serious minds needed on this platform.
propaganda go shame
i agree @kormeley, we need politics of issues, accountability and fairness, not people using week people who cant think, n will only create an impression that Nana is violent, NPP is an Akan party,NPP do not like voltarians etc. have u ever heard that NPP official saying anywhere that NDC do not like Ashanti's? they wont, bcos its needless and childish. when and where did u see Nana inciting violence and ethnic clashes, he is rather a man of peace and he shown that after 2012 court verdict and in soo many forms... but people like the demonstrators cant think for themselves and will allow themselves to be used.
Ataa Akyea is an MP in the AKyem land n hopes to have the university at his constituency or close....and that is his personal opinion, and thankfully he has no power to make an order even if the NPP are in Government, but that is not the opinion of the NPP... have u heard the NPP executive or body organising a press conference to support Ataa Akyea's claims? so this demonstration is needless and its politically motivated... its soo bizarre to know at this stage people can be that gullible, aimless and allow themselves to be used by this, to create ethnic conflict, as if NPP is an Akyem party! but my father is a full krobo and a well-known NPP and my mum is a PPP.... demanding an apology from Nana is disgraceful n shows the demonstrators level of maturity..... poor Ghanaians, indeed we have short memory and cant think for ourselves....
Steve n abotase hv u been to school b4 ? U r foooools paaaaaa
NPP will attack first and run to radio stations to change the narrative to court public sympathy. We are gradually grooming a baby lion and sooner than later would consume the very people who singing its praises.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA. WE CAN NOW SEE WHAT THE NPP(NANAS POPULAR PARTY) IS DOING TO THE REST OF WE THE KROBOS. THEY INSULTED THE EWES AND GAS. NOW THEY HAVE GONE STEPS AHEAD THAT OTHER TRIBES ARE NOT WORTHY FOR ANYTHING.LETS SIT BACK AND WATCH. NANA WANTS TO CAUSE MAYHEM IN THIS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. IF SOMEONE CHILD SENDS MISSILE --HE WANTS IMMEDIATE APOLOGY,BUT IF IT IS HIS CHILD THEN NOBODY QUESTIONS THE CHILD.IF GHANA BOILS (OF WHICH IT WILL NOT)HE WILL RAN RUNAWAY IS TRUMP IN DISGUISE.
