The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako has observed that inasmuch as the entire country are calling for change in the December 7 elections, the category of people who really need this eminent change are members of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
According to the Regional Chairman, though it is evident that the people of Ghana are reeling in poverty under this Mahama NDC, his rounds across the country have shown that communities which have been loyal to the cause of NDC government appears to be suffering more with abject poverty.
"Yes! We all agree Ghana and her children are living in total mess currently, but I can tell you for a fact and everyone knows that NDC supporters in this country are living testimonies of poverty than any other, and they know that it is only Nana Addo and the NPP which can remake their lives," Bernard Antwi Boasiako pointed out.
Speaking to Kwame Tanko, Host of Angel FM's 'Angel In the Morning Show,' Monday, Antwi Boasiako pointed out that while executives of the NDC were living a luxurious lifestyle with their families, their supporters have been left to wallow in misery to the extent that they have become 'living-dead.'
This, the party chairman noted was a deliberate and a calculated attempt by the leaders of the governing party, including President Mahama, to ensure that majority of its supporter remain in poverty so they can control their lives.
"They have made their supporters look like robots which only functions based on what it is fed. They have created poverty for their members so they can use them anytime they want to... just do this survey and you will realize that those who are crying because they cannot afford to buy or live a decent live are the NDC supporters and to me, they need this change more than you and I," Chairman Wontumi stated.
Expressing confidence about the chances of the opposition party in next month's general elections, the Regional Chairman was emphatic that the NPP was going to secure 90% popular votes in Ashanti, while the party claims all the 47 parliamentary seats in the region.
He drew inspirations from the massive electoral turn-around, particularly, in the parliamentary election in 2000, where the NPP with only 60 seats in parliament in 1996, was able to secure over 120 seats to form majority in 2001 under the presidency of John Agyekum Kufour.
According to Chairman Wuntumi, he was not negotiating this election with the NDC or any party because 'this is our stronghold' and that he has 'strong appetite for the 47 and I will take it.'
To the NPP chair, he is not perturbed by moves by the leadership of the ruling government against his personality, adding that all his focus and attention are to ensure that Nana Addo secures the kind of victory that will make it impossible for the NDC to reject the results.
He urged voters in the region not to fear or panic, assuring the party has what it takes to resist any threats of the NDC, now, during and after the election.
He warned: “we just want a free, fair, transparent and credible conduct of the election so the EC should make sure we have that...Again, I want to caution Mahama and his people never to start throwing pebbles at us because we will instead pelt them with stones. No one and I shall repeat, no one can intimidate us in our region, not when I'm the regional chair."
