Renowned Sports journalist and President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association, Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah has entered the debate concerning the retirement package approved for outgoing President John Mahama when he finally leaves the reins of power on 7th January, 2017.
President Mahama who lost the December 7 polls to the New Patriotic Party’s, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be retiring on a salary of GH¢22,809, up from the non-taxable salary of GH¢15,972 previously approved for presidents.
This particular amount however reflects about 43 percent increase from the amount previously paid to presidents.
But, commenting on the monthly take-home salary for the president, former BBC journalist, Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah who campaigned for the NDC in both the 2012 and 2016 took to Facebook to compare how much he earns as an anchor with SuperSports covering an international football tournament.
Ampofo Ankrah added “if I was a very wealthy man and in a position to do so, I would pay the amount myself to President Mahama and indeed all our former living heads of state for their sacrifices to our dear nation. This cheap and backward nonsense must stop”.
The outspoken sports administrator also said he hopes President elect Nana Addo will deliver because the goodwill of Ghanaians will push him to work hard on the NPP’s campaign promises.
The other retirement packages for President Mahama includes;
State-provided staff not exceeding four (4) and a furnished and up-to-date office and communication equipment.
A “40 percent of [his] salary to be paid monthly. Staff support consisting of a cook, steward and gardener.”
For security, “the state will provide two security persons to be chosen by the former President from state security. Two vehicles for security.”
For transport, President Mahama will be given two vehicles, a chauffeur, maintained and comprehensively insured by the State and changed every four years for life.
For overseas official travel, the state will fully pay for all of his trips with his wife and two security persons.
NB: The outgoing president and his spouse will also be entitled to free healthcare. Other benefits include, the payment of utilities at his residence.

THE DIE IS CAST MORE ON THEIR WAY TO NSAWAM PRISONS.

Think about your brother who 'll be going to Nsawam soon and....l just pity your brothers wife bcos even a few days to the election, she was already sad bcos she knew what was coming.
Oh NDC. I didn't know comments on this platform represents NPP communication minister's and other NPP government officials'. NPP is yet to take power and NDC is complaining about arrogance. We are even yet to hear the first NPP minister's voice. NDC lost shamefully and miserably. NDC onaapo!!! Now to Yaw A Ankrah. Who elected you as spokesman for Mahama? Please just enjoy your ill gotten wealth and pray it doesn't diminish. Mahama, we Ghanaians elected and gave power to him to rule. He did not put up a private industry called Ghana and employed Ghanaians. He was appointed by those of us complaining about his package. We are saying it is too much. I thought we would get an informed response from an intelligent being about this complaint but sadly and predictably no. NDC lacks that kind of intellectual capacity. They only know propaganda mixed perfectly with arrogance. Yaw come again.
I'm so surprised that NPP is becoming so arrogant and annoying before they even take over the reigns of government. When will Ghanaians learn at all. The kind of arrogance that too 8 years for NDC to exhibit, NPP is exhibiting it even before swearing in. I can predict you won't last the four years.
What is wrong with this NPP village guys at all?
Yaw, is Mahama a CEO or a private business man. We gave him the mandate to see to the affairs of this nation. Whiles in office, by the grassroots mandate, he gives himself a package we are not happy about. Who are you, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to question why we Ghanaians should not complain about what Mahama gets. NDC followers are funny that's why you lost miserably. Ghana is NOT for NDC and Mahama. He is a public servant and what ever he gets must be measured not to annoy the masses. Please, allow us to complain. Whpm are you trying to please. Bootlickers, hypocrites, ***barred word***, uncultured beings like Yaw all around Mahama who is sadly blind. These kind of posture puts a lot of us off but you are yet to realised that because you are out of touch with reality. Because of your brother, you've been favoured by this government. You thought it will never come to an end. That's a joke. Who are you when some of us were contributing to the birth of NDC from PDC days. What a fack!!!
Who is this guy? It is because of people like u why Mahama lost. Greedy evil
I am very disappointed about this guy . You and your brother stole from Ghana and you think we have forgotton ? We will retreive every penny that you took from us . use.le.s.s man
