A decision by President-elect Nana Akufo Addo to name certain individuals he would be working with during the first term of his tenure, has been described as “alien” and one that lacks constitutional backing by the Member of Parliament for Juaboso.
Hon. Mintah Akandoh explains that he has taken the pain to thoroughly search the constitution but is yet to come across any instrument that gives our President-elect the power to name his ministers before he is sworn into power.
Shortly after President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo had toured the Flagstaff House yesterday, he organized a press conference at his residence to name some members of his backroom staff to steer the affairs of government at least for the first four years.
But speaking in an interview on Radio Gold which was monitored by Peacefmonline.com, the outgoing Deputy Minister of Natural Resources noted that the president-elect could have just waited for a few days after his swearing-in to name ministers and staff he wishes to work with at the Presidency.
The legislator claims the step taken by the incoming president is a bad one.
“What Nana Addo has done is alien to the constitution of the land…he should know governance is a serious business”, he said.
Hon. Mintah Akandoh insisted that the appointments by the president-elect were needless and gave an explanation that “he (Nana Addo) should be sworn in first before starting his appointments”.
He further explained that “Nana Addo isn’t the President of the land today… only the President can make an appointment. We always have one president not two. This is a democratic country so we have to abide by our rules and regulations".

So what is Akando going to do about it?
People in the Juabuso constituency must all be ashamed of the one they voted for to lead them as a parliamentarian. Such a loose head can do nothing for them i terms of development. They must be wiser.
Fantastic, Honourable Mr Akandoh!!! What is bad about a president-elect making known of his plans to the good people of Ghana who have chosen him to serve them? Why did president Mahama not wait until Nana Addo is sworn in before taking him to tour the Golden Jubilee House(Flagstaff House)? What's the big deal, having a list of his administrative staff and making Ghanaians know his intentions or plans? Is there going to be referendum on him before he will be sworn in? The constitution you are talking about is elastic within the framework of common sense. It is callow to view it with a tunnel vision. It is only cacophony to open your mouth too much on this. Don't worry, if you have not seen such before, this is one such positive innovations to come. Anyway thank you, honourable.
Please Mr. Dining Hall Prefect look up for the word " DESIGNATED" and save us the agony of your ignorance.
Tell me it's not true; is this former dining hall prefect parading as an MP really a deputy minister? No wonder why Mahamah failed. Oh well garbage in garbage out. A fruit can't fall too far away from the mother tree. How can this guy with this kind of thinking be allowed to serve as a deputy minister? Incredible indeed. What process do we use to choose our MPs and Ministers at all? We choose them just for electoral advantage or what? God have mercy and forgive Mahamah for the almost destroying Ghana. Shame on him. People are referring to this ***barred word*** parading as MP and a Minister as honorable indeed; ***barred word***.
Eiii, my good people of the NPP, please let's stop the insult ooo. It's too early. Let them criticize and let us work. The insult will not keep us government for long oooh. Let us stay focus. Learn from the babies with sharp teeth oooh. Stop the insult and let us be tolerant
He read Primary Education at the university. He knows nothing about Law. Sorry Akandoh.
What a shame. This guy was a Deputy Minister? Shameful and Disgraceful
Is he really an MP? I understand, NPP is contesting his victory and I hope NPP wins. This former dining hall prefect presence in our parliament would be a waste of resources period. I think he doesn't do any research not read before making any kind of statement. This is shameful. Nothing logical about what he's saying. Akuah Donkor is even more sensible than this so called MP.
Is it Mr. Dining Hall Prefect? No wonder your only "working" experience was a dining hall prefect. You couldn't find any constitutional backing for what Nana has done, fair enough. Assuming what you're saying is correct. My question is can you tell us if there is any constitutional entity that bars what Nana is doing? These are the people NDC are sending to parliament. What can of contribution can they make in parliament with this kind of thinking? These are provisional appointments; some of them are subject to congressional approval but others are not. And besides now of these aside from the transitional team members has started working. Those who are subject to parliamentary approval, Nana made it clear, they're designated appointed ministers until they get the nod from our parliament. These NDC school boys parliamentarians don't know anything besides insults. My advise to this young man is to go back to school to gain more knowledge and also he should try to research and read more before he makes any comments.
