The office of John Mahama has denied claims that the former President has refused to vacate his official residence although his tenure has ended.
According to a statement released Sunday, ex-President Mahama has been occupying the Cantonments residence since his days as Vice President and had requested to use it as his retirement home, a request that was made before the end of his 4-year tenure President.
“We wish to state and confirm that per the information officially communicated to the newly inaugurated administration following discussions by the Joint Transition Team, President Mahama will continue to maintain his current place of residence as his retirement home,” the statement said.
Some media houses have reported that the current Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is struggling to find an official residence to live and work from following John Mahama's refusal to vacate his official residence.
However, reacting to that claim, the office of former President Mahama says the media houses reporting that false claim are only being used to embarrass the immediate past President.
Below is the full statement
Ignore Claims About President Mahama’s Residence
Contrary to the claims being made that HE John Dramani Mahama, former President of the Republic of Ghana, has refused to vacate his residence, we wish to state and confirm that per the information officially communicated to the newly inaugurated administration following discussions by the Joint Transition Team, President Mahama will continue to maintain his current place of residence as his retirement home.
The decision and agreement on the place of residence and office for the former President was formally communicated to the new administration by the former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on December 19, 2016.
The Sixth Parliament of the 4th Republic before its dissolution, also resolved that residential and office accommodation should be provided to the outgoing President, HE John Dramani Mahama in line with convention and existing precedent.
The claims that Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is stranded and has nowhere to stay, is mischievous and deliberately intended to embarrass President Mahama.
The Vice President is expected to take up residence in the House known as Australia House, which was previously occupied by former Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.
An Official and Permanent residence for the Vice President is currently under construction, off the Switchback road. Dr Bawumia will move into the new structure when completed.

you see why goodwill and be Candid could have just grant your request but you were appointing left ,right and center when Ghanaian complained we were told you are still in-charge what has happen less than 24hrs.
Was is not the same Mahama who stopped state officials from purchasing the property they occupied and now he want to get it at zero consideration. stop being greedy greed is a sin ok. very bad example you trying to set. shame on you ok
Wow life... Isn't it this same NDC folks who used the Ga youth to hound Kufour, an 2-term president out of his office. They did claim that kufour was not Ga and that if he wanted an office he should move to Kumasi. Larry Gbevlor Lartey even went as far saying that property was for national security and they kicked kufour out? Now Mahama a 1-term president wants a to keep an official residence for the veep as his own? So he doesn't have any residence in Accra? If that was Aliu Mahama's former residence then perhaps it should be given to Aliu's wife? Mahama please vacate amicably.
NON SENCE; He must vacate the place to make room for Bawumia; that is supposed to be his official residence. They haven't learnt any lesson ooooo; they still want to continue with their stealing.
There should be policies in this Country where an elected president cannot opt to stay in his own residence. Ghanaians should learn to conform to systems that we must as a people put in place for all sundry be it president or ordinary citizen otherwise we will continue to be where we are forever. If where Former President Mahama is a place earmark for Vice Presidents then he has to move for the state to give him another place. I hope President Akuffo Addo will move to the Head of State's residence at Flagstaff house. I don't think President elect Trump will refuse to move to the white house. Let us allow systems to work.
A one term vice and one term president should not be given the option of taking any house meant for the vice president of the country. He should vacate and go and live in Dubai, ei sorry Circle.
The question that we should all be asking is that why does JM wanting to stay in this house when other Vice presidents who occupied that property vacated it without much fuss? Even when he was given an official residence at the Flag Staff House he refused to go go there but to stay in this property which is now in dispute? What are his motives since this man is not and has never been an honorable man? What is he hiding at that property? OR is it may be he intends selling it for a vast profit due to the location of the property as most properties in that area are being sold for millions of dollars (even the derelict ones)? The laws of Ghana must be followed and not bent to pander to the wishes of a failed president.
Mahama should pack out to save the little credibility left. Greed is a sin if he cares to know.
Why are they building a house for the VP when one exists already? This means Mahama had intentions to possess the current VP house. He will not have it. The committee has no power over Ghana assets. All they did was a recommendation. The one who has power over our assets will decide!
Are you out of your mind? Small mind person!
