Former Deputy Power Minister has waded into discussions regarding Ex-President John Dramani Mahama's withdrawal of his request to keep his Cantonment official residence.
Following some controversies and criticisms, the former President withdrew his request to foster good relationship with the new government.
"It would appear that these requests threaten to mar the spirit of cooperation with which we as co-chairs of the joint transition team have managed the smooth transfer of power from my administration to yours. I believe that this controversy is absolutely not needed in these early days as the government settles into office," Mr. Mahama wrote.
Addressing the issue on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, John Jinapor shared a view that the law framers should take a second look at the country's laws and restructure it.
According to him, it shouldn't spark any controversy for an outgoing President to own a house when leaving office, provided the laws of the State are set clearly on it.
He explained that there could be a Committee to steer the affairs of what should be given former Presidents in order to put the matter to rest.
John Jinapor however asked the government to get a proper residence for the Vice President.
He urged media practitioners to scrutinize the Vice President's residence, claiming it's not befitting him.
To him, steps should be made to "get a proper befitting formal residence for a Vice President. The place that we claim is the Vice President’s residence, I don’t consider it as such . . . can’t we really get a decent place for a Vice President?”
