Some officials in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government purchased some of the state vehicles listed as missing by the new government.
According to the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel George, about 271 of the vehicles allegedly missing vehicles from the President’s vehicle pool were purchased by some officials of the former government. He made the revelation on Citi FM’s news analysis program, The Big Issue on Saturday.
According to Same George, although he declined to purchase the vehicle allocated to him while serving as a Presidential staffer under the former government, some of his colleagues bought theirs after the vehicles were duly properly valuated by the State Transport Company.
The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, had earlier this week revealed, that about 208 of the vehicles bequeathed to the new government by the National Democratic Congress government could not be traced.
But the Deputy Chief of Staff under the Mahama administration, Johnny Osei Kofi, in a counter statement described Mr Arhin’s claims as “false, baseless and without merit.”
However, speaking on our news analysis and current affairs programme, The Big Issue, on Saturday morning, the Ningo Prampram legislator said the auctioning was in comformity with standard practice to enable officials of the former administration to purchase the vehicles.
“A number of my colleagues chose to buy their cars. I for personal reasons declined to buy my car and I returned it to the director of logistics at the Office of President. We put out a list of 641 vehicles. We handed over about 370 vehicles to the assets and logistics committee [of the new government] and these vehicles were physically inspected by the assets committee led by lawyer Ayikoi Otu.”
“You’ll see a disparity and it is because 271 salon cars were purchased by staffers who had put in a request to purchase their vehicles which were 2 years and above.”
Sam George’s revelation appear to introduce a different twist of the story as it suggests that the purchased vehicles were also included in the list presented to the new government as vehicles available for its use.
Selling state cars to politicians ‘bush way of doing things’
Meanwhile, a retired Ghanaian diplomat, KB Asante, has said that government officials buying state vehicles they previously used is a “bush way of doing things.” According to him, the vehicles must be properly auctioned to allow interested Ghanaians buy them.
Speaking to Citi News, he questioned the logic behind such direct sales to officials, arguing that the practice will always lead to wanton abuse of state property.

So you mean the npp did not know that when such vehicles were being sold, the officers using them have the right of first buy? Even in the NGO sector when vehicles are auctioned staff have the right of first buy so why all this noise and waste of everybody's time. If it happened in Kuffour's them, it is happening in Mahama's time lets wait and see what will happen in Nana Addo's time and stop posing as if you never heard it before. In the matter of npp's ministers buying state lands, when they took the matter to court were the ministers not allowed to keep the lands bought because due procedure was observed. Please Ghanaians alone. If you cannot fulfil your gangantuan manifesto promises just say it and stop these decoys. "enfa nhye wo kora na enye onoa" Better concentrate on how to reduce the Bimbilla death toll after promising to enskin them when you come to power, they are waiting. "wontumi nspelli aa ma enkyerew"
My worry is over Kwame Sefa Kayi's behaviour towards this car issue. The last time I heard him saying that Abroyen should be arrested. He also stated he wishes the task force come to his house to take his car. My question to him is does he has some of the cars in his possession. What roobbishhhh. Thieeeeee.f and nation wreeeeecker. Two face man, chopping from both Ndc And npp. Nana Addo should be very careful with this greeeedy guy.
NPP zip up. You did the exact same thing during Ghana at 50 when Kuffour's government purchased fleet of cars. Politicians same old. Sadly they beg as kids hungry for koko & when they are offered koko they eat & pour the rest on the ground. NDC thanks for the mess & NPP great job for observing wai. Personal take Ghana @ 60 not useful to celebrate UNTIL politicians learn to do the right thing. All sucks!NPP or NDC !
Thanks Sam George for setting the records straight. Wonder if the former deputy chief of staff doesn't know about this?
AT WHAT PRICES WERE THEY SOLD THAT KOFI ADAMDS COULD BUY 8 AND MORE. WE SHOULD RE-EVALUATE THEM IF THEY WERE UNDER PRICED.
ok if the cars bought for the state by taxpayers are two years and no longer new for the govt why is the auction not made public so that the public can also bid for the cars . cause a politician whether npp or ndc will buy a car for 8000 ghc and sell it for maybe 30 000 which is the price on the market
Sometime I tend to believe that Ghanaians are cursed with fickle-minds like Sam George in leadership positions, bold enough to argue this way, but at a second thought, i believe we deserve what we get. What can i say more? we appoint ***barred word*** to rule us. Even 2000 model of Nissan sentra will not be sold for 8000Gh. 'Djuloi feeh'
Some took away 2-4 at throw away price of Ghc3000 (not $!) and then there are those who used to work at the protocol office who were ndc agents and would but a couple of SUV every year at that same price and resell them back into the market for the ACTUAL price!
271 vehicles!! Wow. How many presidential staffers were working at the Flast affordable House?
Oh, goodness! Look at what even the so-called intelligent minds in political leadership do. What a shame. It takes 15 minutes to get a political ID Card when the politician needs power: It takes 3 months plus a bribe for the citizen to get a passport. They create a million problem and solve ten. they make laws which allow them buy state cars. Really? they dont engineer anything. all they know are tax laws. That you buy a V8 for how much? - GHC 8000? So even it's by law, what are your brains for? "more material, less humanity" minds in leadership.
