The chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of not helping the local garment industry by choosing to wear a suit to deliver his maiden State of the Nation Address.
Mr Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, 21 February, delivering his address before parliament, wore a black suit over a white shirt and grey tie. But according to Mr Mornah, the president’s wardrobe was not Ghanaian.
Speaking to Class News, he noted that Mr Akufo-Addo’s decision to wear suit could cripple the local garment industry.
“The president came to parliament and spoke very well. He spoke about establishing factories including garments and said that he was going to set a personal example and then I got devastated that at the time the president was talking about establishing the local garment [industry], the president came in a three-piece suit. The vice-president [also] came in a…suit, which is not Ghanaian,” he lamented.
“If the president wants to showcase his readiness for all of us to emulate him, then I think that he must appreciate that when he talks of promoting the local garment industry [and he wants] all of us to be excited about it, then the only way he can ensure that is, he must patronise the local garment. [This is] because there are many Ghanaians, young and old, who are looking up to the president to possibly dress like him and then they see their president in a…suit.
They see their vice-president on an important occasion in a…suit and then they hear in the same president’s speech that he is going to promote local garment and that he was going to set a personal example particularly with time and others.
They [will] say, ‘the president likes suit so me too I want to become a president so I will like suit’. You are not helping the local garment industry…” he added.

Mr. Mornah use local cars and not the gifted foreign one use received.
Mona is right as a leader you practice what you preach
CHAIRMAN BERNARD ANNOUNCING HIS PRESENCE OOO. HAVE U FORGOTTEN IS A PROUD PROFESSIONAL LAWYER? WHY DIDN'T SUGGEST HIDES TO THE LAWYERS AND SUPREME COURT JUDGES IN STEAD OF WICKS.
Guys I think what Bernard said is not bad. Lets not insult him. Its high time our leaders project our own products. Rawlings likes to wear African prints to such occassions. And its very exemplary. I Think African Prints looks best on Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia as well. When I saw them in whites during the thanks giving service at the Accra Sports Stadium, it was nice. LETS PROMOTE OUR OWN PRODUCTS. NIGERIANS take pride in what they wear as Nigerians and it looks great on them. So Our leaders can encourage the wave of local garments when they start showcasing it in public. And I must admit we need a professional to take care of the Presidents wardrobe.
Is bernard mornah wearing local fabric in any of his pictures? He only wears white! Besides, let's focus on moving the nation forward instead of discussing people's preferences in clothing and hairstyles! That is why we're still here! At the bottom of the dunghill!
@ MONAH ,HOW MANY JOBS WILL THAT LOCAL FABRIC BRING TO GHANAIANS ? REASON .
The President is an adult individual. Can't he decide what to wear for such an occasion? What mentality is this? You should use your common sense for once.
This man got a very low IQ, after wearing african prints did it help your party to come to power or it brought money into ur pocket, krakye grow up and stop been an attention seeker, you lack sense paaa
MR MONA, NOT ONLY THE FABRICS OO HIS DRESSING SELF IS VERY BAD. WHOEVER TAKES CARE OF NANA ADDO'S WARDROBE SHOULD CHECK, HE IS THE PRESIDENT FOR CHRIST SAKE ABA!
