The Leadership of Ghana’s Parliament has banned the use of placards by members during the budget presentation on Thursday March 2, 2017.
In a proposal on the floor of Parliament Friday, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu argued that the development as has been in the past casts the image of the legislature in a bad light.
The Member of Parliament for Suame also reprimanded the minority for their behavior during the president’s state of the nation address on Tuesday.
Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu in supporting the proposal called on the majority to conduct themselves well in future given that, that side of the House started singing during the address by the President.
This is not the first time MPs have been warned to desist from showing placards on the floor.
In November 2013, the then Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho stated that it is un-parliamentary for members to display placards in the House, accusing each other of acts of alleged wrongdoings.
Meanwhile, several tax cuts are expected to be announced by the Finance Minister when he reads the first budget of the Akufo-Addo government next week Thursday.
Government intends to reduce or in some cases, completely remove some taxes as part of a proposed tax reform.
For instance, government is looking at reducing corporate income tax from 25 to 20 percent and abolishing the 17.5 percent tax on financial services.

Will Ghana's parliamentarians ever be serious? Placards at NDC time. Now NPP is avoiding them knowing is was wrong and they did. The NDC will also not learn, just following the status quo knowing is a bad thing. Yeeye, noono saa and they will go ex-gratia. You oppose when you have to, not when it's not logical.
NPP one good turn deserves another.Expect more,Is ur president better than other presidents. Wait and see
MENSAH BONSU, FU**CK OFF. GO FU**CK YOURSELF. IS YOUR NANA IS NOT BETTER THAN THE PAST PRESIDENT. GET FU*CK AGAIN.
We will continue to show placards and nothing will happen, where were you when NPP was showing placards to Prez Mahama? We are comporting ourselves because is too early for such move, prepare for it next year.It won't only happen in Parliament,it will happen at every foreign airport incapable Akufo Addo lands.mlifua sane
NDC, don't mind that Osei Kyei Mensah. Show the play cards. Iddrissu wise and don't kotow to opposition pressure or you have been bought?
If the NDC MPs accept this ***barred word*** sem. They will loose more seats in 2920. If they think it's a joke they should go ahead ahead and be displaying all these weakness they are already displaying. In government they call you incompetent now in opposition you will be called weak opposition. You people wake up and start working with all this gross display of weakness all over the place
Iam so sad about how NDC MPS are becoming weak in opposing NPP.Why do they want to stop placards in parliament. Have they forgotten so soon what NPP are doing to NDC members though the have won power.Beating of NDC members, illigal seizure of NDC members cars etc. They should not forget that Ex President Attamils regime prevented or advised NDM members not to retaliate what NPP did to them in 2001 after NPP won the power and NDC obeyed, but still NPP is attacking NDC members and now NPP parliamentarians are telling you minority to be with them to stop placards, booing at their president, ministers etc when they come to do presentation at parliament and you agree with them that they will reciprocate same when you comes to power? Have you forgotten disappointment of Ex Pres.Mahama Residence after the promise?Have you forgotten the believe you NDC guys had that since Ex Pres.Mills and Mahama stopped NDC members not to attack NPP after NDC won power and now how they are treating NDC members.Have you forgotten so soon and you now want to believe them again to stop displaying of playcards in parliament to their ministers and their President. You guys should be in bird with them and when you win power they will not ***barred word*** you buy display of playcards but drumming also. What did they not do to Mills and Mahama and you want to agree with them. You NDc MPS should go on and dance with them and when it is election time we will show you the way out.
I said it. NDC in opposition is too weak for my liking. Every thing they will compromise. Kyei Mensah Bonsu in Opposition refused to stand up for Prof. Mills in Parliament. Now he thinks showing placcards is abomination and you side with him? a sign of weakness. If you don't take care, they'll bully you all the time. Be strong Haruna be strong
THIS IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. WE MUST GROW ABOVE SETTING THINGS IN OUR DEMOCRATIC DESPENSATION. THUMBS UP TO THE LEADERSHIP IN PARLIAMENT.
So soon, the government is feeling the heat. The government can ban placards but there are alternatives. Clapping bamboo sticks and silver lids.
