The NDC Minority Members in Parliament on Thursday defied the directive by the leadership of the House against the showing of placards during the presentation of the 2017 budget.
This directive was communicated to legislators last Friday, after the Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu argued that the trend is against best practice in parliamentary procedures and casts the Ghanaian legislature in a bad light.
The minority was criticized for their behavior during the president’s state of the nation address recently.
This is not the first time MPs have been cautioned on showing placards on the floor.
In November 2013, the then Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho maintained that it is un-parliamentary for members to display placards in the House.
But when it was expected that the Legislators will turn on a new leaf and show a departure from the wrong bad today, the NDC caucus went back to the old order.
They were seen displaying white A4 Sheets with the inscription 419, amidst shouting on top of their voices which made the House momentarily unruly, apparantly in disagreement with certain pronouncements of the Finance Minister.
Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Ocquaye had a hell of a time restoring order, as the NDC MPs will not budge. He was heard shouts “Order…Hon. members order, but it took more than five minutes to restore nomalcy.”

This MPS call themselves law-makers,whiles they cannot obey their own rules. These bunch of political hooligans need to be ashamed of themselves. What examples are they showing to Ghanaians to copy? SHAME unto them NDC.
INDISCIPLINE NDC FOLKS WILL TAKE THEIR UNRULY,UNCULTURED,UNMANNED BEHAVIOR JUST AS THEIR LEADER CAME FROM THE BARRACKS TO PROCLAIM HIMSELF JUNIOR TO JESUS TO HEIGHTS WHICH NOT ONLY DENT OUR IMAGE AS CIVILIZED PEOPLE BUT FROM A GUTTER COUNTRY .SO SAD. I PRAY THEY NEVER GAIN ANY POLITICAL OFFICE IN GHANA AGAIN.
Some of the MPs are st.u.p1d 1d.1ots.....They have no value to add to debate in the House. The Speaker must be able to control those misbehaving and mention their names and ask them to keep quiet.
Budget days are serious days in all countries but in Ghana otherwise. I suspect most of them did not have a clue of what is being said to have a proper debate. Quality of MPs part of reasons the country is in a mess. Economy is the basis of any country so people should listen and then engage in robust debate.
This is just the beginning of what will happen when or if NPP leaves power,...the car snatching, public toilets, attacks on government officials etc..this will never stop. You do me,i do you syndrome. It will take time, i believe so...
There comes a time when we must put an end to bad habits. It's go to start somewhere. More like JHS children in the classroom. How can we pass laws to bring okada operators to order? What will their children think of them and how would they behave in school? Will they submit to school authorities. We must grow up as a nation and what best place to start as in Parliament.
Law makers who have no regard for their own laws. No wander they take bribes and return after 24hrs. Disgraceful bunch of ***barred word***.
NPP also did that when they were in oposition where they not honorables?
And they call themselves honorable,***barred word***. How do they expect normal citizens to obey law and order,if those implementing the laws don't obey it themselves? No wonder Ghana is so lawless.
IN A COUNTRY WHERE PARLIAMENTARIANS BEHAVE LIKE SHS CHILDREN , WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?
