Former national chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei says he is very happy that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been elected President of Ghana.
To him, Nana Addo’s age [72years] makes him an endowed person with lots of experience to lead the country.
“I’m happy because he comes with a wealth of experience that will help and then a certain respectability from the elder people,” Dr Adjei said in a radio interview on Wednesday night on Accra based Starr FM.
Speaking to Bola Ray on his Starr Chat programme, Dr Adjei talked about varied issues, which in his view resulted in the defeat of the NDC in the 2016 Elections and how he lost his position as chairman of the party after leading it for 9 years.
To him, delegates of the NDC allowed their conscience to be influenced with money and hence they voted him out since he was not prepared to offer them money, something he said if not stopped, posed a great danger to the democracy of the country.
He said President Mahama for instance surrounded himself with “inexperienced” appointees who thought that people like Dr Kwabena Adjei was too old to be playing a part in the NDC’s campaign.
”Now it is like, he is too old, he is 74, so we the young ones must take over. You [Bola Ray] the young one sitting here if I ask you the history of Ghana, you will not be able to tell me,” Dr Adjei asked.
Following from this comment, Bola Ray asked him whether he was happy that President Akufo-Addo was in power.
His response was “Yes! I’m very happy because, you go to the net, [internet] and find out the number of leaders in the world, from 90 down… Mugabe, Queen Elizabeth right down, Trump is there, Buhari is there, I’m happy Akufo-Addo is in, he is my age, I’m older than Akufo-Addo by a few months.”
Following this, he also said he was not surprised that the NDC lost the election and that the party was certain to lose the elections after delegates failed to re-elect him [Adjei] for another term as chairman of the party.
“I wasn’t surprised [the NDC lost]…because when they [delegates] voted me out in Kumasi they voted the party out. It was a done deal [that the NPP will win]. I am not superstitious but I came to the party with my own style…and I had a way of relating to the people.”
Dr. Adjei popularly known by his peers as ‘Nkonya Terminator’ a.k.a. ‘Wayo Wayo’ said members of the party cut him out of the party’s campaign machinery and was prevented on several occasions from meeting the president to advise him on how to handle things.
“Nobody involved me in the campaign, I involved myself…no I wasn’t invited…I tried to get access to the President and I didn’t get access, when I noticed things were going wrong, I tried and tried and tried but I didn’t get access so I mobilized myself…and did what I could do,” the 74-year-old said.

The truth is told mahama surround himself with inexperience personal
***barred word*** talk. you supported npp to come to power.
This is ***barred word***. NDC doesn't belong to you and same to JJ. Being a founder is one thing and getting followers is another thing. Kwabena adjei is sick. That position wasn't your property. It's for any ndc member who qualifies. Well, show us what you did for the campaign. I can tell from your own words you even campaigned against JM. Bcos u said when you were voted out you knew ndc will loose so l tell you on authority that you sabotaged the party. Stop that ***barred word*** and let's rebuild our party. It's not your fault. When developed countries are using young and wise people to rule their countries you are talking rubbish for Ghana to use old people and unwise people to rule a developing country like Ghana. Maybe the youth have not be that much angry. #selfish old junky leaders. Sorry for my harsh words but your words were needless and ***barred word***.
Dr Kwabena Adjei is talking from the hatred point of view, just because he lost an election which to him seek to be his forever. Very sad,if he has any experience, he should let help his party NDC not be making such unwarranted comment.
Means you don't believe in developing the youth, no wonder the govt parked old incompetent uninnovative walking stick holders as ministers, ....youth will continue to be unemployed with this thinking
For me ; the argument that the the older elite in Ghana icluding Nana Addo as leaders of our country have helped us is completely FALSE !!!!because anybody who knows the history of Ghana will tell you that the older generation of todays Ghana from all walks of life have been the architects of Ghana's failure TODAY !!!!THEY ARE ALL DISHONEST AND CORRUPT EXCEPT A FEW ; these older generation civil servants ;public servants and politicians started as young politicians of today ; who were also on state asset plunder as today's politicians ; to me they all have the same intent and designs to still and plunder the state; most of these older people acquired their assets illigitimately and today we are witnessing the same act of of treason amongst the youth ; Nana Addo to me is no different because he may have good intentions but Nana Addo is in surrounded by evil intented politicians who are today involved in corruption ; besides having a grey hair does not make you a wise leader ; THE KEY POINT IS IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF PEOPLE YOU EMPLOY TO WORK FOR YOU AS A LEADER; IT IS NO POINT EMPLOYING CRIMINALS TO WORK FOR YOU WHEN YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TYO TAKE ACTION TO BRING THEM TO BOOK !!!!!!; NANA ADDO IS NOT PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION NEITHER WAS JON MAHAMA PREPARED TO DO SAME !!!!!!
Another mole airing his frustrations when things didn't go his way. Is it not naive to suggest that because you were voted out NDC lost? Do you realize how damaging that is to your reputation? Which means in the 9 years you were at the helm you did not really build or strengthen structures that would work long after you are gone and that is a practical example of spectacular leadership failure! No wonder Fmr President Barack Obama said Africa doesn't need strong leaders but rather strong institutions! African leaders( business and particularly political leaders )tend to put structures that will only perpetuate their presence in office and that everything should function around and with them. That is a very dangerous trait and no wonder successes are not repeatable. As Dr Myles Monroe said:A good leader works himself out of the job. So it is very preposterous for Dr Kwabena Adjei to say they lost when they voted him out. Which means he really left no lasting legacy which would otherwise have characterized his tenure as a remarkable success.
we are all happy
NDC lost the election on principles not anybody's failiure. For good intentions, NDC was going to take off teacher training allowances, NPP was going to restore; for good intentions, NDC was going to remove nursing student allowances, NPP was going to restore; for good intentions, NDC had introduced some taxes to raise funds for infrastructure development and nation building, NPP was going to remove those taxes; for bad reasons, the leadership of NDC including you and the former president JJ and their families have turned against Mahama, Kuffour threw all his support behind Nana Addo. So oldman what do you expect? By your own utterance, you were even looking forward to Nana Addo becoming president so stop the pretence.
Silence is golden, they say. You mean you the experienced politician lost to the inexperienced young politicians and will not keep quiete. Does it not mean that Nana Addo though old is also inexperienced. Look at how he is governing the nation, his own watch dogs are turning to bite him. Look at the conduct his own invisible forces who do not even respect him. Is he not falling on his own sword and is that something to envy?
