The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is blaming the police for not being proactive to avert the siege by the party’s vigilante group, Delta Force.
He indicated that, given the volatile nature of the case, the police should have beefed up security at the court before the suspects were brought to court.
Members of Delta Force stormed the KMA Circuit Court in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi and freed members who were facing charges for causing disturbances at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
The group allegedly vandalized some court properties and almost assaulted the presiding judge, Madam Mary Senkyire. After a swift manhunt, the police was able to arrest eight of the 13 suspects and have declared the rest fugitives.
But Sammi Awuku in an interview on Joy FM condemned the conduct of the group in no uncertain terms.
Conceding that the members of the vigilante group are their boys, he indicated that the police could have done better. “The police at the court erred because they should have known better. The security agencies should not wait to the be told to do” he stressed.
The NPP Youth leader indicated that the despicable conduct of the group will not be condoned by a party that prides its self on being disciples of the rule of law.
“We condemn this action and us as a party will support the police to ensure the law takes it cause” he added.
Sammi Awuku added that, though they will not turn their backs on members of the Delta Force, “we will not condone any act of lawlessness”.

Excuse me, police shld do wht?. do u remember wht you did at just ended election? you used them, so wht are u talking abt? OH! Awuku u and ur NPP lied to Ghanaians and came to power. have you seen wht is going on? suicide, lawlessness, hardship and disasters. you people think you ve all the brains in world so if you are in different party it means you are ***barred word***. remember 4 or 8 years is around the Conner so continue fooling.
He indicated that, given the volatile nature of the case, the police should have beefed up security at the court before the suspects were brought to court.- Sammi Awuku Why and how would you describe a simple appearance in court as violent. What we are seeing is simply the chickens coming home to roost. When the likes of Sammi Awuku encourage the NPP young men to carry pestles and other implements to visit mayhem on their opponents, he was setting the stage for what we are seeing today. It is said that 'when you turn your child into a monster, you will be first to be devoured by it'
When top government officials and politicians stop interfering with police works, these ***barred word*** wont have have happened. Our big shots have made police works very difficult to do their work effectively.
Sammi, you pampered these acts when you were in oposition what else do you expect. Election is over. Intelligent minds who are not NPP loyalist but voted your party to power expect you to condemn this act without compromising. This is very bad for our democracy
What volatile situation are you talking of? Please is the country at war? Just watch your words and not blame the Police...Has Ghana so soon turned into Banana republic in just under 4 months of NPP government? Why should you expect the Police to be playing 'mai guard' because some people are being tried in the court of Law? You are part of those who cajoled and encouraged these guys into becoming a vigilante group in case you did not win power, and now your mojo has caught up with you guys.
