The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to President Nana Akufo-Addo to clamp down on the Delta Force.
The party has charged the President to bring the members of the Delta Force, a pro-NPP vigilante group, to order or face a massive political revolt; albeit a peaceful one.
According to a statement signed by the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the 7 days given to the President is to ensure that he (Nana Addo) effects the arrest of the members of the vigilante group for wreaking chaos at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court.
"The lack of action on the part of President Akufo Addo and the NPP Government to stem the rise of these deluge of lawlessness in Ghana has made it very difficult for the NDC not to conclude that there is an organized and state sponsored agenda to run the country by private party militia groups in clear violation of our Constitution which prohibits private militias. To put it pointedly; President Akufo-Addo and the NPP, are consciously sponsoring 'state terrorism'," the party stressed.
The party feared silence by the President over the Delta Force attacks could breed "terrorist groups" in the country, hence cautioning the Nana Addo administration to put strict measures in place to check the menace.
The NDC also wants the President to take swift action to ensure the continuity of the trial of the accused Delta Force members who were set free by the group on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
"Ghana is on a slippery path towards enabling the activities of terrorist groups to fester and gain roots and it must not be countenanced. The signals Ghana is currently witnessing are very similar to what happened in countries that have become theatres of political intolerance, vigilante justice and ultimately violent terrorism and civil conflicts...The NDC is by this statement giving the President a 7day ultimatum for these actions to be taken."
The NDC threatened to embark on a series of mass actions against the government should the President fail to heed their demands.
"If these actions are not taken by the end of the 7 days, we shall embark on a series of mass actions via all peaceful and lawful means to press home our demands further to ensure that this "Black Thursday" never occurs again in the annals of Ghana’s history", the statement further read.

It is very painful that when a serious issue is on board and people will use it as an avenue to insult and say all sort of things. How can 13 people be free in court by common vigilant group. A situation that needs to be addressed and people are joking and playing politics with it. I support u that boko haram started like this and becos a proper measure was not taken today is a great problem to our neighbouring countries. We need to be very careful and reasonable when commenting on issues. If 13 people can be freed I then whether what is going to be happen to our beloved country.
While at it we Ghanaian Citizens are also issuing ALL PASS NDC GOVERMENT OFFICIALS HOLDING STATE CARS TO BE RETURN ...we want them back with 4 DAYS...Nkwassiafuo
This is one of the best press conferences made by the NDC. #Stoptheforces#
I remember during the swearing in of the new council of state, the president in his speech said and i quote, " I look forward very much to working with a Council that will offer me straightforward advice, based on unvarnished truth. I look forward to working with a Council that will help all of us deepen our democracy, and I look forward to working with a Council that will help us deliver a prosperous Ghana. SUCH A COUNCIL SHOULD NOT GIVE ADVICE TO A PRESIDENT, THE EFFECT OF WHICH IS TO UNDERMINE THE INDEPENDENCE OF ANY OF THE OTHER ARMS OF GOVERNMENT, ESPECIALLY THE JUDICIARY." My point: Any one does need a prophet or a seer to tell the fate of the apprehended members of this group. My question therefore is , what will Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana do when that time comes. One thing though , i can predict rightly is that, the President, right is in a great state of dilemma. One that may be causing him insomnia. Wow Ghana ay3 d3d33d3
