Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for urging workers to develop a better attitude towards work.
President Akufo-Addo, delivering a speech on Monday, May 1, to mark the May Day celebrations at the Independence Square in Accra, advised that if the nation is "going to make the changes we all want, then we have to start with a change in attitude to work. Government is ready to do its part and I am counting on you Secretary General to lead the campaign for a change in attitude to work and increase in productivity.
"I have said it at another forum, but I think it bears repeating: we arrive at work late and then spend the first hour in prayer; we are clock watchers and leave in the middle of critical work, because it is the official closing time. Everything comes to a stop when it rains and we seem to expect the rest of the world also to stop."
Commenting on the President's speech on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt held strongly that the President has hit the nail right on the head because some workers have indeed developed lackadaisical attitudes and also engaged in wasteful activities that erode the country of productivity.
Mr. Pratt condemned lateness to work and using working hours to pray or embark on spiritual exercises.
He wondered how workers could gather at their workplaces praying for an hour or hours when they are supposed to be in their offices working for productivity.
“There’s a place of work where from morning (8 O’clock) when they’re expected to start work; they will now be doing morning devotion for one hour. They will be clapping hands and singing hallelujah for one hour, in the afternoon too – afternoon prayers – another one hour and when they are about to close too – closing prayers – one hour. So, they take 3 hours out of the eight hours we need to work”.
He further called on employers not to compel their employees to undergo such spiritual routines because not all employees may be willing to and also called on them to stop wasting productive hours.
He also lambasted employers and government for failing to also provide the necessary logistics to their employees to ease their workload.
To Mr. Pratt, for the President's advice to be heeded, it will take all parties - both employers and employees - to reorient their minds towards work.

is it only Christians who pray during working hours? Muslims also pray during the working hours. please stop behaving as if you dont do it
There are so many things that are done during work hours as well. Many people are even online for some hours everyday doing personal stuff. Others who are pursuing higher education also take sometime to study. Point of correction, I am yet to see a company who spends more than an hour on devotion daily...it is very unlikely to be true...the normal prayers they do are attached to the daily meetings. I personally feel an effective 5 hours a day will make a very profitable firm...Many people spend less than 3 hours productive time. Sometimes going to the bank, to shop, so many personal errands.
Antichrist Pratt is at it again
master grow up and stop the phooolish act of insults. Why should u insult him for speaking his mind u can choose to agree or disagree with him but show maturity by not insulting him, some people even use working hours to go for counselling and prayers and a company like MONTRAN for instance it is compulsory every morning no matter ur religion and even if u dont come for the morning devotion u will be queried and sometimes the muslims wish they were not part but is compulsory so they have no choice
The most nauseating of all is the call for prayers before the start and end of meetings and this practice is shamefully present even in some academic institutions; universities. Is it not shameful that academics who "know book" and should lead to bring about positive changes in Ghana have resorted to miracles by asking God to "guide" or "take control" of meetings? The journey to our development becomes an illusion if we keep to this prayer practice or ritual and it is high time we called it off!
I tut you Christain are not suppose to insult others . How can you convince another unbeliever to follow you if you start your sent by using the word Gymimii. That is not good
THE MESSAGE HERE IS SIMPLE - DON'T USE OFFICE HOURS FOR OTHER THINGS THAN WORK. THIS HAS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTIANS, MOSLEMS, DEVIL,....WORKERS ARE PAID FOR THE TIME SPEND ON PRODUCTIVE WORKS. YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, WATCH BREAKFAST SHOW, JUMP INTO A VEHICLE AND COME AND WASTE TIME AT THE WORK PLACE.FROM 5PM TO 8AM THE NEXT DAY, WHAT DO THESE PRAYER WASTERS DO?
those who don't side with kwesi pratt are the masters of ignorance, is the work place a church? why wont you pray before leaving for work? if the employees belongs to different religious faiths would you allow all of them to perform their prayers before work start? come on,, africa lets grow..then they force all the employees to pray to that young man Jesus who was born in Bethlehem instead of the one who created the Jesus himself.
This is a typical anti God who would do everything to promote the work of the devil. What has praying corporately before work begins got to do with unproductivity. What has praying during break times and maybe after work got to do with inefficiency. Do you think top business executives in companies and their staff around the world don't pray before they begin their works. By the way what statistics have you got to back your claim? Well I don't blame you because you live on the prayers others are saying and the sufficient grace that is pouring on the land. I am not going to waste my energy on your ill manners against the almighty God. How many times do you speak on radio stations through to your home after works. filter how many of them are productive in your own context. You will have to repent and accept the Lord as your saviour else you will pay dearly for your eternity before the creator when you leave this mortal body. God is merciful whose love for you endures forever. So I will not condemn you for such an utterance but at an appropriate time, I believe the Holy Spirit will meet and deal with you accordingly. Don't ever think there is no God as you have perceived in your mind a long while. God continue to shower His blessings on you until you meet Him face-to-face on the road to Damascus.
Prayer before the start of work is very important, but don't let it eat into your working hours.Example if work starts at 8am. You can have your morning devotions between 06:00am-7:30am.That is reasonable
