The Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to politicize the death of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE yesterday, he said, “The tears of the Armed Forces, the family of the deceased are not yet dried up and so whoever seeks to politicize this painful incident should stop it.”
Captain Mahama, whose gruesome death at the hands of persons suspected to be galamsey operators at Denkyira Oboase in the Upper Denkyira East District of the Central Region, stunned the nation last Monday, has attracted political remarks from the NDC.
The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, yesterday asked President Akufo-Addo to resign over the incident, among other rather regrettable comments seen as lacking the deference required at this time.
“This is not the time to resort to the dirty politics some political parties are noted for,” the minister cautioned, adding that the death of such a fine and promising officer is too painful to be treated as such.
Sounding pained, Mr Nitiwul observed, “Captain Mahama died on national duties and the best we can do for his memory as a nation is to correct all the wrongs that have transpired in the past. Galamsey, the lynching of suspects among others, should be stopped in memory of Captain Mahama.
“The least the country can expect from a party that recently handed over power is to be responsible at this period.”
As Ghanaians, he said, we should not let the death of the young officer die without sufficient action taken to correct our mistakes through politicization. “Most serious national issues that are politicized end up not going nowhere and therefore soon put on the back burners. This way nothing is done about them to obviate future recurrence. We don’t want Mahama’s death to go in that direction,” the defence minister pointed out.
Continuing, he said, “We are mourning the painful death of Captain Mahama and would not brook any attempt at watering this sad episode with cheap politics.”
He underscored, “The NDC and for that matter, any political party, can do politics but not with the death of Captain Mahama. This is too big for the Armed Forces. If they want to do politics let them go ahead but Captain Mahama’s death. This is too painful for the NDC to jump into it. I am calling on the elders of the NDC to put a stop to this politicization of a sad development.”

And if they do, what can you do about it?? Nothing. Unless we get matured as a people in terms of the understanding of politics by the mass illiterates of our nation, we won't go far.
Maturity is not about age and grey hair but,how one is able to understand and address issues. I wonder the kind of elder Asiedu Nketia is, at his age he can not excuse me reason that grey hair is the sign of wisdom. This is not the time for politics but the time in folding down the national flag for crying. Thank you Mr Dominic Nitiwul.
Well said, Hon. Minister for Defence.
What is this little rookie talking about. Does he understand democracy? How dare you dictate how someone should talk. Nun sense.
If a sitting President dies and it is politicized, whose death cannot be politicized? I just hope and pray these events would teach Ghanaians that our politicians are only different depending on their position at any point in time. When they're in opposition everything is the fault of the government, then once they're in power, they want us to view issues as national issues that we all should be responsible for. I look forward to that day Ghanaians will learn from these.
Somebody ask Asiedu Nketiah where the assembly man run to hide? The assembly man first run to the former ndc DCE and he handed the guy over to the police so what is Asiedu Nketiah talking about? They know the ndc know what happened and their evil plans for the country so want to politicize it to kill the case but ndc lie bad it will never work for them and any evil planned against this government and the good people of Ghana by the ndc will never work. Ndc those wicked spirits you imported into our country because of elections are the ones working, but we have a living GOD who is the Omnipotent the Alpha and Omega who is in control and will shoot down all your evil acts and will allow the truth to work which will expose you. Ndc are against the fight against galamsey because they are deep in it and are finding all ways to frustrate the fight against galamsey but they will fail. Ndc think they could use the fight against galamsey against the government and thereby come back to power but it has failed, their next plan was to kill one of the soldiers who have been tasked to fight against galamsey hence the st*pid utterances made by their ndc general resecretary which in fact, it was God who made Asiedu Nketiah ' s press conference nons*nse in the ears of Ghanaians which is making the ndc much more unpopular. WE SERVING A LIVING GOD who will forever turn everything ndc nons*nse and us*less in the ears of Ghanaians to wipe away that evil party from the radar of Ghana politics.
I am NDC but was sad when l heard my chairman spoke about the cause of Cpt. Mahama's death. I pray JM will call him to order. There are so many things to do politics with but not this one, chairman.
