Seasoned journalist and dyed-in-the-wool Nkrumahist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has shared his thoughts on
President Akufo-Addo's decision to propose a legislation to Parliament to designate 4th August as FOUNDERS DAY, and 21st September as KWAME NKRUMAH MEMORIAL DAY; both of which will be observed as public holidays.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peacefm's flagship programme, "Kokrokoo", Mr Baako held the view that Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah does not need a statutory public holiday in his memory.
He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the "only founder of the modern state of Ghana", in his opinion is Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who remains a "global icon".
"Kwame Nkrumah does not need a day, a statutory public holiday in his memory. He doesn’t need it," he added.
Kweku Baako, who is the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, also stated that he had problems with late President Mills decision to make Nkrumah’s birthday a public holiday in 2010, without trying to build a consensus among Ghanaians knowing very well that it was a controversial subject.

You see the problems of Ghanaians? I think we are too emotional and lack emotional intelligence to argue properly and objectively. Why do we have a group of people we call 'The Big Six' and have their picture on our currency? I think they are all great men, who have been recognized as such in this country and contributed immensely to the development of our dear nation. Everybody knows Nkrumah stands tall among these people, but if we have a day to celebrate all of them together, what is wrong with it? Are people agitated because two of the Big Six, happen to be family members of now President Akufo-Addo? If none of the Big Six was a relative of Akufo-Addo, would people have accepted his proposal? I think politics has negatively affected the thinking capacity of most Ghanaians. How sad!
NPP has not got a single founder,it has founders, founders are different from President.Being a President does not make you a founder,Nelson Mandela,Mugabe,Samora Machel,Tafawa Balewa,Gearge Washington are not called founders of their respective countries even though they were first presidents.it is not true anywhere that it is always one outstanding person is called the founder.who are the founders of Nigeria,USA,UK,GERMANY,TOGO.Founding a nation is not like FORMING A POLICTICAL PARTY.THE Nation Ghana was existing before Nkrumah was born,The British and to conquer Ashanti and added them to Ghana, then the north, that eas how Gana was formed.Ghana is bigger than Nkrumah. No individual is bigger than any nation.
Hahahahaha John Boadu see, you writing something you know in your head Ghanaians would not accept why forcing yourself? is it by force to impose family on Ghanaians? ooh no no no no NPP this your idea is very shameful and even most your own NPP members doesn't like but can not say. In every thing there can only be one outstanding person and not everybody. Even you John Boadu play a major rule in NPP victory why are you also called president? lets stop this shameful act.
Please check the sound bite again. It is not that of Kweku Baako. You may refile to include that of Kweku Baako. I need to hear him again and again on this issue. Thank you.
