Parliament has passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill amidst controversy over whether the Prosecutor should be immuned from prosecution.
With the passage of the bill, government is now free to appoint an independent prosecutor and allocate resources for the office.
The office of the Special Prosecutor will have the mandate to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged corruption under the Public Procurement Act 203 Act 63 and other corruption-related offenses implicating public officers, political office holders and their accomplices in the public sector. The Prosecutor will also be mandated to trace and recover the proceeds of corruption.
Speaking to this during the presentation of the 2018 budget and financial statement in parliament, Thursday, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta stated that the Special Prosecutor's office will be catered for following the passage of the bill.
“This is a significant move in the overwhelming national desire to fight corruption…The Office of the special prosecutor is getting ready to crack the whip of justice” he said.

well done but the passage of the bill is just the first step. let us appoint the special prosecutor immidiately to start his/her work. i hope the appoint will not take another one year of back and forth. if you dont have anyone in mind give it to Mr. Amidu or my humble self. either of us can do the job. whoever you appoint shd have a neutral mind to prosecute anyone including himself if found to be involved in any corrupt practice. let the show begin NOW!
please, start work with immediate effect.
Massa; the job of Special Prosecutor should go to Martin-Amidu an NDC man because this man will not take prisoners in the war against corruption and stilling ; anything less will not be ACCEPTABLE TO GHANAIANS !!!!!
#martinamiduforspecialprosecutor# #maforsp #ma4sp We don't want any NPP man or sympathizer for this role. We need a man of tenacity who has proven to all Ghanaians, BEYOND DOUBT, his unmatched quest to fight corruption. #ma4sp

Those who bought one coconut US$1,000.00 in Brasil should get ready to face the Special Prosecutor. This time round whether you CRY at the Office or NOT no mercy for the cripple. All those who think they are involved in over pricing of contracts also be prepared to face the Office of the Special Prosecutor. This time, if you are guilty you will be jailed and retrieve the money too. If those people will cry before the Special Prosecutor, they will NOT be set free as some people will CRY before Committee and they will be transferred to the Seat of Government.
