Members of the Minority in Parliament refrained from taking part in discussions on the Floor of Parliament despite being present, in a sit-down protest on Wednesday.
According Citi News, members of the Minority only asked three questions but refused to comment on any other business in the House.
Duke Opoku also reported that they did not participate in a Finance Committee report that was discussed thereafter.
He added that they also did not second any motion on the Floor including on the adjournment of the House when the proposal was made by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
The Minority staged a walkout in Parliament on Tuesday when the ‘cash for seat’ investigative report was being debated in Parliament, which they believe reflected only the views of the Majority side on the committee.
Explaining the rationale of their action to Duke Mensah Opoku, Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi said they are doing so because they feel that the Majority considers their views as “irrelevant.”
“The Majority thinks that the views of the Minority are not relevant. That is why the views of the minority members on the committee were rejected by the chairman of the committee and he did not incorporate the views of the Minority in that report. So the report that came is not the committee’s report, it is the majority members on the committee’s report. If they had accommodated the views of the minority then we could have said it is the committee’s report.”
When asked when the Minority will end their protest, Mr. Avedzi said “we don’t have a termination point” but he assured that they will always be present for sittings.
“We will only participate when the Majority considers our views as relevant. They think that Ghana belongs to them, they think that Parliament belongs to them and that they can work without the Minority. That is why for the first time in the history of this parliament, a witness who appeared before a committee was given the opportunity to debate that report on the floor. Minister for trade and industry and industry who is a witness, who appeared before the committee was contributing to the debate yesterday, has it ever happened before?”

NDC MPS ATTITUDE REFLECT THEIR ORIGIN. THEY ARE A PARTY WITHOUT A SOUL. IT IS NOT FOUNDED ON IDEOLOGY BUT REBELLION. THE REBELLIOUS CHARACTER OF NDC MPS STEMS OUT OF THE ROOT OF THEIR PARTY FOUNDED ON HATRED, CHAOS, SENSELESS DESTRUCTION OF LIFE AND PROPERTY, RESISTANCE TO LAW AND ORDER AND DISTURBANCE TO PUBLIC PEACE. THE ORIGIN OF NDC IS SIMILAR TO THE RISE OF ABIMELECH IN THE BOOK OF JUDGES. HENCE, THE FATE OF NDC SEEMS TO BE LIKE THE FATE OF ABIMELECH AND HIS FOLLOWERS.
PARLIAMENT WITHOUT NDC, AS IT IS FOUND TODAY, WILL HELP GHANA TO FAST TRACK DEVELOPMENT. NDC MPS HAVE BECOME EMPTY NOISY BARREL AND THEREFORE NUISANCE TO PARLIAMENT AND THE GHANAIAN SOCIETY. I AM AFRAID GHANA WILL BE FORCED TO LOOK FOR AN ALTERNATIVE AND RELIABLE OPPOSITION OTHER THAN NDC.
I WISH THE NDC STAY AWAY FOR SIX MONTHS SO THE NPP PALIAMENTARIANS COULD THEIR WORK VERY FAST TO MOVE GHANA FORWARD.NDC " MOHO BON NA MO TETA GUM"
The NDC leadership in parliament is behaving like kids.... When they walked out yesterday i thought they will never return..... This behaviour will make most of them to loose their seats in the next election..... They only return to come and get their sitting allowances... If this debate is to do with car loans for them they will participate fully... NDC corrupt greedy f0..0ls. Parliament will be a better place without these NDC greedy b.a.s.t.ards.......
dont mind those ed10>ts. they will talk if there is some money to be shared. we know them. that is the only reason they are there if not why will they go and just sit down. Why not sit in ur house and watch kumkum bagya. ignore them. they will talk when they see or hear money is coming for them. if they like they can bring their beds and sleep, they will not get anything to th.1>ef now! cr1m1nals.
this is good. I like the way the majority is dealing with these ed10>ts. i hope they continue in this way. Good job majority. indeed u are now proving to be the majority. at first i thought ndc is still in power and has majority in parliament. but now i believe u just gave them the rope and they got to the end of it. keep it up. who told them Ghanaians need them in that house anyway. we dont need them and their views are not important to us bcos the only thing they know is how to create, loot and share our money. so now that they have decided to keep quiet our country can progress to greater heights. just make sure you dont give them any money to develop their constituencies so that in 2020 they will loose more seats. for most of them even if you give them the money they will spend it on their own and will not do anything for their ple bcos they know no matter what they will win. those ple know themselves so just ignore their demands. we dont need them and mother ghana hates them too.
IT IS NOT THE MAJORITY NOR GHANAIANS WHO HAVE MADE THE OPPOSITION IRRELEVANT. IT IS THE NDC MPS THEMSELVES, SPEARHEADED BY HARRUNA, MUNTAKA AND OKUDZETO WHO HAVE MADE THE MINORITY IRRELEVANT. IN FACT THE CALIBER OF LEADERSHIP OF MINORITY IS UNFORTUNATE. THEY ARE STILL BEHAVING LIKE STUDENTS IN BOYS SCHOOL. THEY RESORT TO DEMONSTRATIONS, IN STEAD OF DIALOGUE, TO PRESENT THEIR VIEWS. THE MINORITY HAVE MORE BECOME OBSTRUCTION TO PARLIAMENT. GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN BAGBIN, KUMBOUR AND OTHERS RELIED ON DIPLOMACY AND LOGICAL ARGUMENT TO CONVINCE THE SPEAKER AND THEIR OPPONET TO MAKE THEIR CASE. TODAY THE ONLY TOOL FOR OKUDZETO AND HIS FRIENDS IS APPEAL TO EMOTIONS AND PROPAGANDA. IT WAS VERY CHILDISHHH WHEN IN PRESENTING THE CASH FOR SEAT ALLEGATION TO THE PRESS, OKUDZETO CLAIMED MONEY SPENT FOR THE EVENT COULD HAVE BEEN USED TO CARE FOR THE POOR. I WISH OKUDZETO TO DEMAND THE CUTTING DOWN OF HIS SALARY AND ALLOWANCES TO SUPPORT THE POOR. HE, AND MANY OF THE PRESENT CROP OF MINORITY MPS, SIMPLY APPEAL TO EMOTIONS AND NOT REASONS TO MAKE THEIR CASE. IT IS ACTUALL BECAUSE OF THIS ATTITUDE OF NDC MPS THEMSELVES THAT HAVE MADE THEIR OPPOSITION IRRELEVANT.
But what good is gonna come out of this? Mr.... you have a thick skin for a president who believes he is nonchalant as far as his administration is concerned...because whatever he does will receive the nod of his majority in parliament. This action is rather retrogressive and does not speak well of the already yeo man's job done by the minority for exposing almost every corrupt move by the president and his appointees. Though he may get away with it, but the good people of Ghana will be the ultimate judge.... If an old man his age could not sit and lament over his filthy and dubious means to get to power, but still bent on stealing not only from the nation but exhausting every available avenue to aggrandize himself through extortion, nemesis will surely catch up with him.
These guys know no shame. If there is a minority report in this parliament then everything is possible. The minority is afraid of what will happen to them for deceiving the whole nation hence their strange behaviour. They are doomed, Mark my words
Give them NO pay for no work done!
