A member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, says his party takes pride in giving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) a “credible” person to occupy the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
According to him, the NPP could not find any person fit for the position within its ranks only to look over to their archrivals for someone.
“We gave them Martin Amidu,” he said on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday.
“We made him what he is,” he added, “with our probity and accountability.”
Martin Amidu, a founder member of the NDC, is expected to be approved by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday.
He had an overwhelming approval by the Committee after his vetting last Tuesday as all but Tamale North Member of Parliament Alhassan Suhuyini voted for his nomination.
His nomination was seen by some NDC officials as a strategy to witch-hunt them.
Mr Amaliba told New Day host Bright Nana Amfoh that “we have given them a credible person”.
‘A thousand and one’
But a member of the NPP, John Kuma, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), said inasmuch as Mr Amidu is qualified, there are many equally qualified persons the NPP could have chosen from its fold.
“He is not the only person qualified,” he stressed, adding: “There are a thousand and one people in NPP who qualify.”
Mr Kuma said it was only inclusive on the part of the government to nominate someone from a different party.
“Even with their own qualified person, look at their attitude,” he indicated, making an allusion to the Supreme Court suit against Mr Amidu’s nomination.
It is on that issue that Mr Amaliba added that it is more important as a “Supreme Court ruling can undo all that Parliament has done and we will come back to Square One”.

Monsieur Amaliba you made Amidu credible or credible Amidu stood against an incredible breed of contemporary politicians in a once-time-past credible party. The NDC is no longer credible after your greedy folks created, l-ooted and shared GH's hard earned money like nobody's business. I call the present NDC the breed of the wickedly corrupt, you folks don't care if you have all the money and all of us die. That's the crop of people parading in your party now especially most of those where were in govt until recently. You seem to have no s-hame at all to publicly come out with such a statement
