Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fred Agbenyo is pleading with President Nana Akufo-Addo to grant Presidential pardon to Mr. Abuga Pele.
An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Asare-Botwe sentenced Abuga Pele, a former National Coordinator of the defunct Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) to 6 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of causing financial loss to the state.
He was sentenced together with a representative of the Goodwill International Group (GIG), Philip Akpeena Assibit who was also implicated in the GYEEDA scandal.
Mr. Assibit will be serving a 12-year jail term.
Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Fred Agbenyo told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that his party respects the court verdict.
In contrast with views of NDC Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lante Vanderpuye that the NDC when it assumes power in the year 2020 will ensure the release of Abuga Pele, Fred Agbenyo stated emphatically that the NDC has due regard for the rule of law, hence will not do anything contrary to the country's constitution.
He however intimated that the constitution makes provision for a President of the Republic to exercise prerogative of mercy and therefore grant pardon to prisoners.
He hoped "if in the wisdom of the current President, when he looks at the circumstances" and conduct of Mr. Abuga Pele and says "‘Okay, I’m granting pardon’; I think we will all be happy and our joy would be complete”.
“Almost every President in the fourth Republic has had the cause to even grant pardon to prisoners before. Under Jerry John Rawlings, he granted some pardons. Under President Kufour, the same thing, Professor Mills, President Mahama...” he added.

THERE SHOULD BE A NATIONWIDE CRUSADE AGAINST ANY PRESIDENTIAL PARDON FOR ANYONE CONVICTED ON CORRUPTION RELATED ISSUES. THIS IDEA THAT WHEN SOMEONE S-T-E-A-L-S FOODSTUFF OUT OF NECESSITY WILL BE JAILED FOR SO MANY YEARS BUT WHEN POLITICIANS WILLFULLY S-T-E-A-L-S FROM STATE COFFERS, THEY ARE PARDONED IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. EVERY GHANAIAN SHOULD VOTE AGAINST THIS PRESIDENT IF HE PARDON THESE TIFFS. I WILL CERTAINLY CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE N.P.P IF THIS KWASIABUO IS EMBARKED ON BY THIS ADMINISTRATION. AS FOR THE N.D.C, THEIR PLANS OF COMING INTO GOVERNMENT IS LAID BARE FOR ALL TO SEE. THEY DO NOT COME INTO POWER TO HELP THE WHOLE NATION BUT TO ENRICH THEMSELVES. AWIFO).
A corrupt NDC prosecuting one of their corrupt officials. They just did window prosecution just as what happened in the Woyome criminal case and do komsi-komsa and set him free. Their intentions are coming out one after the other. SHAME NDC!
In NDC's DREAMS. ***barred word***#@S AND CORRUPT people will be JAILED and our money COLLECTED for us. NO THIEV^%E will be PARDONED!
According to Agbenyo If Nana Addo "Pardons" Abuga Pele, Our Joy Will Know No Bounds. This statement together with that of Vandapoye that if NDC wins 2020 they will be discharged. This show that NDC took them to court with the intention to pardon them. Shame
No wonder John Ford Mahama freed the montie 3.....It will never happen in Abuga Pele's case... It was NDC that took him to court for corruption and he was sentenced by a court of competent jurisdiction unlike kangaroo courts during the PNDC days....... Why take him to court for 4 years and when sentenced then you immediately pardon him? NDC is an ev!l party.... They must remain in opposition forever to enable our institutions to work....
The same statement of Nii Lante Vanderpuye's in disguise by Fred Agbenyo. All this statements make sending of corrupt officials to the court were just a mere camouflage.Their statements shows clearly that NDC was not looking for conviction but was only doing a face saving excises to deceive Ghanaians. If not by change of government, those corrupt officials will have been freed by the court. No wonder Wayome and the likes of Betty Moud Iddrisu,Bartin Oduro and the likes are walking free..
when will you stop these your filthy talks. Pardon who. you guys are d ones killing our nation. we're u ok with d words u just spoke.
FOOOLI.SH TALK FROM AN EQUALLY FOOOIISH BOY OR MAN. NANA MUST THEN SET ALL THE ARMED ROBBERS AND ***barred word*** FREE BECAUSE HE HAS THE EXERCISE PREROGATIVE OF MERCY AS THE PRESIDENT. LOOTERS AND NATION WRECKERS.
