Former President Jerry John Rawlings has hit back at critics who downplayed his fears that the recent spate of armed robberies recorded in parts of the country could be politically motivated.
In reaction to the condemnations that his fears were far-fetched, Mr. Rawlings retorted that none of the skeptics “are in a position to recognise security related power play better than me.”
In a statement on social media, the former President described some these skeptics as having timid minds, further suggesting that such persons were oblivious of the the level of rot within the society.
Thus, he said such persons “should not expect to be able to know or see what I see – much more to downplay it.”
Last week, when the reports of robberies were rampant, Mr. Rawlings in a statement said he hoped the heightened insecurity was not politically motivated.
“Let us hope the recent robbery and killings is downright plain robbery and not a politically motivated action from within or without, calculated to undermine those in charge of the security machinery in order to pave the way for certain parochial ambitions,” the former President stated.

Reshuffling of police hierarchy
Mr. Rawlings’ concerns last week came shortly before a major shake-up hit the police hierarchy.
Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, then-Director General of Police Operations, was reassigned to head the Research and Planning Department.
He was replaced by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Simon Afeku.
Nine others were also reassigned to take up various positions across the country.
No official reason has been given for the reshuffle.
The dramatic increase in the robbery cases also led to the government intensifying the already-ongoing operation ‘Calm Life’ which is aimed at combating criminal activities in all parts of the country.
The government said military personnel were going to be deployed onto the streets of major cities nationwide to assist the police as part of efforts to halt the surge in robberies.

This idiotic murderer JJ Rawlings have this notion of being a security expert because he once led Ghana for 20 years but he did not achieve anything on the security arena but prefers to admire dictators like Putin and at the same time chooses to follow a democrat Nana Addo ; JJ Rawlings should be told that people who know about security issues never discuss or divulge security matters in public ; it is always the these fake security idits like JJ Rawlings who think they know about security ; JJ Rawlings should take a cue from his cousin Kojo Tsikata ; how many times has he heard Kojo Tsikata bragging and mixing security and political issues; JJ RAWLINGS SHOULD JUST ***barred word*** !!!!!!
If I may ask did Rawlings mention any name or political party, why is the NDC so apprehensive are they guilty you guess is good as mine, because I don't see the cause of their ranting
You people should stop the ranting. What JJ said was right. Some of us said it long before he came out with what he said. Don't forget this is a man who ruled this country for 19 years. We should not ignore what he said because it is JJ
He is saying this could be planned to give some people bad name to pave way for other people. he is damn right. not everyone is excited about anti corruption crusade. the sad thing is that when such people succeed they only run down the economy. my hope is they will be exposed big time
This man think because no one dealt with him for his killings he is free to still talk trash. If he had been prosecuted for his crime against the innocent people he killed he would have toned down. He killed people for only 50000 old Ghana cedis, but today he and his family own diverse businesses and no one has touched them so he thinks he is above the law.
l wish ghana had more of halidu gyiwa to calm this mother ***barred word*** down. anyway am hoping that the children of army generals killed will rise up one day
This man should keep quite no one takes you serious again , where are the people who killed yaa naa as you clam , go sit down you fooooool
He Rawlings is just been ***barred word*** , want to show his surpport for his Father in law peroid.
Ato, Yaw and Asa you belong to the group of people Rawlings is talking about. It's either you are clueless about security issues and machinations or you really did not take your time to read Rawlings' statement: The man didnt say he actually KNEW people who will or could do these things but rather is saying that as far as security issues are concerned people can deliberately try to create a seeming state of insecurity for political reasons ...and that is ABSOLUTELY true....every security expert knows this
If rawlings knew armed robberies were politically motivated and sat down and did nothing until it happened then the BNI and the police should invite him to explain why he sat down and possibly ask him to mention names of those he knew were behind the robberies. Acheampong, Afrifaa and general akuffos blood on his hands are making him go crazy and therefore talking by hearts.
